Blacephalon Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Blacephalon in a Playthrough

Blacephalon is a single-stage Fire/Ghost Ultra Beast introduced in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, with its ordinary Alola availability restricted to Ultra Sun near the very end of the game, so it is better understood as a late-story or postgame attacker than a normal long-term team member. Its base 151 Special Attack and 107 Speed make it an excellent special wallbreaker or cleaner, while Fire/Ghost STAB provides powerful neutral coverage and immunities to Normal and Fighting. Shadow Ball and Flamethrower are the safest repeatable STAB choices, whereas Fire Blast trades accuracy for power and the signature Mind Blown reaches 150 base power at the enormous cost of half of Blacephalon's maximum HP each time it is used. Beast Boost normally raises Special Attack after a knockout, but specialized spreads can make Speed the highest stat and turn a Choice Scarf or cleaning set into an increasingly difficult target to revenge kill. Its 53 HP and 53 Defense are extremely poor and it is weak to Dark, Ghost, Ground, Rock, and Water, so Blacephalon should generally enter through a free switch or pivot rather than absorb an attack directly. Timid is normally preferable because base 107 Speed is good but still vulnerable to several faster offensive Pokémon, while Modest is reasonable for Choice Scarf or maximum wallbreaking sets.

Blacephalon in Competitive Pokémon

Blacephalon was an OU Pokémon in both Generation VII and Sword and Shield, giving it one of the strongest sustained singles records among the Ultra Beasts introduced in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. In Generation VII, Fire/Ghost STAB, base 151 Special Attack, base 107 Speed, Beast Boost, Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, and access to Trick made it both a devastating wallbreaker and a dangerous late-game cleaner. Choice Scarf sets could revenge kill faster offensive Pokémon and then snowball through Beast Boost, while Choice Specs could break would-be defensive answers after modest chip damage; Tyranitar was historically one of its most important checks because it resisted Fire, threatened it with Dark attacks, and could exploit Pursuit in that generation. Sword and Shield preserved Blacephalon's OU status and arguably made the basic formula cleaner: Choice Specs pressured even bulky targets such as Toxapex and Gastrodon after chip, while Choice Scarf sets threatened Dragapult, Weavile, and weakened offensive teams. Heavy-Duty Boots could reduce the cost of Stealth Rock for non-Choice sets, but Blacephalon's miserable physical bulk and weaknesses to common priority remained fundamental constraints. Mind Blown was competitively powerful in the formats where it was used, but losing half of maximum HP is an enormous price and ordinary Flamethrower or Fire Blast often provided better longevity. Blacephalon is unavailable in standard Scarlet and Violet, so its conventional main-series tier history currently ends with a second consecutive OU generation.

Blacephalon in Nuzlockes

Blacephalon is the kind of Pokémon that can erase dangerous opponents before they move but offers almost no forgiveness if the knockout calculation is wrong. Base 107 Speed and 151 Special Attack make accurate Shadow Ball and Flamethrower excellent Nuzlocke tools, while Normal and Fighting immunities can create genuinely free entries when enemy movesets are known. Its base 53 HP and Defense make strong physical attacks especially dangerous, and weaknesses to Dark, Ghost, Ground, Rock, and Water mean it should almost never be used as a blind defensive switch. Mind Blown is usually a poor permadeath choice because every use costs half of Blacephalon's maximum HP regardless of the enormous damage it inflicts, potentially placing the user in priority or hazard range even after a successful knockout. Fire Blast introduces additional accuracy risk, so Flamethrower is normally preferable whenever its lower power still secures the required result. Beast Boost can produce a safe sweep after the first controlled knockout, but the player's goal should be to deny opponents turns rather than expecting this extremely frail Ultra Beast to survive mistakes.

Blacephalon Biology and Behavior

Blacephalon is a humanoid Ultra Beast whose detachable spherical head is composed of countless tiny sparks and is used as an expendable explosive weapon. It deliberately approaches targets with exaggerated, foolish-looking movements that lower their guard, then abruptly throws or detonates its own head to shock them. While the victim is startled, Blacephalon drains its vitality and converts that stolen life energy into power for itself. The head regenerates after exploding, allowing the behavior to be repeated rather than functioning as a one-time self-destructive attack. The colors and shapes of the sparks and star-like structures around its head change with its mood, giving the unusual head an expressive role as well as an offensive one. Animated canon also establishes a rivalry with Xurkitree in which the two Ultra Beasts compete to produce increasingly spectacular displays of light.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
