Seedot Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Seedot in a Playthrough
The Seedot line provides the counterpart to Lotad in several Hoenn versions, beginning as pure Grass before gaining Dark typing when Seedot evolves into Nuzleaf at level 14. Nuzleaf then requires a Leaf Stone to evolve into Shiftry, giving the player control over the final evolution but potentially making move timing important in games where Shiftry learns fewer attacks naturally after stone evolution. Shiftry has useful mixed offenses at base 100 Attack and 90 Special Attack with base 80 Speed, allowing physical, special, or mixed sets depending on generation; in Generation III both Grass and Dark attacks are special, which means Dark STAB does not yet use its higher Attack. The physical/special split improves the line by allowing physical Dark moves such as later Knock Off, Night Slash, or Sucker Punch to match Shiftry's Attack, while Chlorophyll can double Speed in sun and transform it into a dangerous offensive cleaner. Grass/Dark provides a Psychic immunity and several useful resistances but carries numerous weaknesses, including a quadruple Bug weakness, so Shiftry generally performs better by attacking first than by relying on its 60/60 defenses.
Seedot in Competitive Pokémon
Shiftry has generally occupied lower competitive tiers but has repeatedly found real offensive niches through mixed attacking stats, useful Grass/Dark STAB, priority, and weather-based speed control. In ADV, Chlorophyll enabled Sunny Day sets that could double Speed, fire off immediate Solar Beam, use coverage, and even Explode to remove a defensive answer, while Swords Dance offered a separate physical approach. Later generations made its Dark offense far more natural through Knock Off and Sucker Punch, while Leaf Storm, Seed Bomb, Swords Dance, Growth, and Defog allowed offensive support and wallbreaking sets; Smogon has repeatedly highlighted its ability to become especially dangerous under sun. Generation IX also replaces Early Bird with Wind Rider as a standard ability option, granting immunity to wind moves and an Attack boost when such a move hits it or when Tailwind takes effect on its side. Shiftry's main limitation has never been lack of options but lack of defensive margin: base 60 defenses, a long weakness list, and a quadruple Bug weakness mean faster attackers or strong priority can remove it before its versatile offense matters.
Seedot in Nuzlockes
The Seedot line can be valuable in a Nuzlocke because Seedot evolves early and Shiftry eventually combines a Psychic immunity with useful offensive coverage against Water-, Ground-, Ghost-, and Psychic-type opponents. The Leaf Stone evolution requirement creates flexibility but also means the player should check whether evolving Nuzleaf immediately would sacrifice useful level-up moves in that particular game. Shiftry's mixed offenses and later access to priority such as Sucker Punch can shorten dangerous battles, while Chlorophyll can turn sunlight into a major Speed advantage. The defensive side is much less forgiving: Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ice, Poison, Fairy, and especially quadruple Bug damage can all punish a careless switch, and base 60 defenses give little room to survive unexpected super-effective coverage. Shiftry is therefore strongest in a Nuzlocke as a targeted offensive specialist rather than a general-purpose pivot, with its numerous resistances and Psychic immunity used only when the opponent's moveset is well understood.

Seedot Biology and Behavior
Seedot hangs from tree branches by the stem on top of its head and absorbs moisture and nutrients directly from the host tree until its body becomes heavy enough to fall. The more it drinks, the glossier its acorn-like shell becomes, and Seedot further maintains that surface by polishing itself with leaves once each day. When completely still it can be mistaken for an ordinary nut, and it deliberately exploits that resemblance both to startle passersby and to be carried away by bird Pokemon. That accidental-looking transport helps Seedot spread to new habitats, giving its mimicry a reproductive and ecological function beyond simple camouflage.

Seedot Size Comparison: BETA
Seedot is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
