Togetic's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Togepi evolves into Togetic by leveling up high friendship, and Togetic evolves into Togekiss with a Shiny Stone.

Togetic Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Togetic in a Playthrough

The Togepi line has one of the largest differences between its early and final stages of any Johto family. Togepi is extremely weak in direct combat and normally evolves into Togetic through high friendship, making the early portion of the line more of a training investment than an immediate battle asset; in the original Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Togetic was also the final stage because Togekiss did not yet exist. Generation IV transformed the line by introducing Togekiss, obtained by using a Shiny Stone on Togetic, with base 120 Special Attack, excellent mixed bulk, broad special coverage, recovery, support moves, and the famous Serene Grace combination with Air Slash. Its typing also changed substantially in Generation VI: Togepi became pure Fairy and Togetic and Togekiss became Fairy/Flying instead of their earlier Normal-based typings, gaining a Dragon immunity and valuable Fighting and Dark resistances. Availability still matters greatly—HeartGold and SoulSilver give the player a Togepi Egg during the story, but the Shiny Stone is normally a postgame acquisition there, leaving Togetic as the practical endpoint before the Elite Four without trading.

Togetic in Competitive Pokémon

Togekiss has had a substantial competitive career built around the combination of strong special offense, excellent mixed bulk, reliable recovery, support options, and Serene Grace. Serene Grace doubles Air Slash's normal flinch chance to 60 percent, creating the notorious 'paraflinch' strategy when paired with Thunder Wave and allowing Togekiss to pressure even bulky opponents if it can move first. Nasty Plot lets it shift from bulky support into a dangerous special sweeper, while Roost, Heal Bell, Defog, Aura Sphere, Fire coverage, and other options have allowed it to fill offensive and defensive roles across different generations; in doubles, Follow Me and Tailwind have also given Togekiss a valuable redirection and speed-control niche. The introduction of Fairy typing in Generation VI improved many important matchups and helped Togekiss check Dragon-, Fighting-, and Dark-type threats, contributing to strong placements such as UUBL and prominent UU roles in later formats. Its recurring weaknesses are middling base 80 Speed, common Electric-, Ice-, Rock-, Steel-, and Poison-type attacks, and a Stealth Rock weakness that removes one quarter of its maximum HP on entry.

Togetic in Nuzlockes

Togepi is often a guaranteed or otherwise controlled gift encounter in Johto-based Nuzlockes, making the line strategically attractive even though the baby Pokemon itself is a poor battler. The main cost is patience: Togepi must survive long enough to build high friendship before becoming Togetic, and in games where Togekiss is inaccessible until a Shiny Stone appears, the player may spend a large portion of the run carrying a Pokemon whose offense is modest. If Togekiss becomes available during meaningful story progression, the investment pays off dramatically through excellent 85/95/115 bulk, base 120 Special Attack, a Ground immunity, strong support options, and useful resistances that give it numerous safe matchups. Serene Grace Air Slash can reduce incoming damage by preventing slower opponents from acting, but a Nuzlocke should never treat a flinch chance as guaranteed; Rock, Electric, Ice, Steel, and Poison coverage must still be respected. From Generation VI onward, Fairy/Flying typing makes Togekiss particularly useful against dangerous Dragon and Fighting opponents, while earlier Normal/Flying versions instead possess a Ghost immunity but lack the later Fairy advantages.

Togetic Biology and Behavior

Togetic appears able to sense kindness directly, seeking out pure-hearted people and Pokemon so that it can shower them with happiness and glowing down described as 'joy dust.' It is said to travel around the world searching for people with whom it can share this happiness, but becomes dispirited and loses energy when forced to remain around unkind individuals. Despite possessing wings, Togetic can levitate without visibly flapping them, and it has even been observed sleeping while suspended in the air as though supported by an unexplained force. Wild Togetic are exceptionally rare but are sometimes associated with forest environments, reinforcing their reputation as elusive bearers of good fortune rather than ordinary wildlife.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Togetic currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
