Using Barraskewda in a Playthrough
Arrokuda evolves into Barraskewda at level 26, so the family reaches its final stage early enough to function as a major Water-type attacker through most of a Sword/Shield or Scarlet/Violet playthrough. Barraskewda is built around speed and physical offense, with base 136 Speed and 123 Attack but only 61 HP, 60 Defense, and 50 Special Defense, making it one of the clearest examples of a Pokémon that survives by moving first rather than by taking hits. Liquidation and Waterfall provide reliable physical Water STAB, while Close Combat, Psychic Fangs, Crunch, Ice Fang, and Poison Jab give it unusually broad coverage against Water-resistant or otherwise troublesome opponents. Swift Swim doubles Barraskewda's Speed in rain and turns an already extremely fast Pokémon into something almost impossible for ordinary unboosted opponents to outrun, while Propeller Tail is primarily useful in doubles because it prevents attacks from being redirected. Flip Turn is especially valuable in later generations because Barraskewda can exploit its Speed to damage an opponent and immediately bring in a safer teammate rather than remaining in a bad matchup. Its Water typing provides Fire, Ice, Steel, and Water resistances but only mediocre raw bulk, so even neutral priority or strong physical attacks can be dangerous if Barraskewda fails to secure the knockout first. Jolly is usually the safest Nature for preserving its extraordinary Speed tier, while Adamant is a legitimate choice on rain teams where Swift Swim already supplies overwhelming speed and the extra damage becomes more valuable.
Barraskewda in Competitive Pokémon
Barraskewda became one of Generation VIII's defining rain sweepers and was classified OU in Sword/Shield, where Pelipper's Drizzle, Swift Swim, base 136 Speed, and base 123 Attack produced one of the fastest and strongest physical rain attackers available. Liquidation or Waterfall supplied rain-boosted STAB, Close Combat punished Ferrothorn and other Steel- or Normal-types, Psychic Fangs hit Toxapex and Amoonguss, and Flip Turn let Barraskewda preserve momentum even when a Water-resistant answer entered. Its role was not limited to pure cleaning: Choice Band and offensive pivot sets could make progress even before rain was established, while Swift Swim gave rain teams exceptional speed control against offensive opponents. The species' poor 61/60/50 bulk is the main counterweight, leaving it highly vulnerable to priority, status, and strong neutral attacks whenever rain or positioning fails to protect it. Scarlet and Violet currently place Barraskewda in RU rather than OU, but Smogon still recognizes it as an excellent wallbreaker and late-game cleaner there, with rain once again making it effectively impossible for normal Speed control to catch. Regenerator Water resists such as Slowbro and Amoonguss are especially important modern checks because they can absorb Water attacks repeatedly and recover the chip from Flip Turn. Its competitive history is therefore substantial: Barraskewda moved from a premier SS OU rain sweeper into a lower-tier but still extremely dangerous SV rain attacker rather than simply disappearing with generational power creep.
Barraskewda in Nuzlockes
Barraskewda is a strong Nuzlocke attacker because level-26 evolution and base 136 Speed let it remove many opponents before they have any opportunity to deal damage. Waterfall and Liquidation are accurate and reliable, while Flip Turn can let Barraskewda strike first and leave immediately when the matchup is unfavorable. Its frailty is the central danger: base 61 HP, 60 Defense, and 50 Special Defense provide little margin for a failed knockout, critical hit, priority move, or unexpected coverage attack. Swift Swim can make rain extremely safe offensively because virtually nothing will outspeed it, but rain also strengthens opposing Water attacks and should not be treated as a purely personal advantage. Close Combat is accurate and useful coverage but lowers both defenses, making Barraskewda even less able to survive a follow-up attack in multi-Pokémon battles. Electric and Grass moves are the only normal super-effective weaknesses, yet strong neutral priority can be almost as dangerous because priority bypasses the Speed stat Barraskewda depends upon for survival. A Nuzlocke should therefore use it as a precision attacker and pivot rather than as a switch-in or general-purpose tank.

This Pokémon has a jaw that’s as sharp as a spear and as strong as steel. Apparently Barraskewda’s flesh is surprisingly tasty, too.
It spins its tail fins to propel itself, surging forward at speeds of over 100 knots before ramming prey and spearing into them.

Barraskewda Biology and Behavior
Barraskewda develops jaws described as both spear-sharp and as strong as steel, combining piercing anatomy with extreme swimming speed. By spinning its propeller-like tail, it can reach roughly 100 knots, or about 115 miles per hour, and uses that speed to ram and spear prey. The Pokécology book describes Barraskewda as the fastest known Pokémon in the water. It can launch itself out of the sea and seize Wingull flying close to the surface, extending its hunting range beyond underwater prey. Barraskewda also competes with Finizen for food, establishing a direct ecological rivalry between two exceptionally mobile marine Pokémon. Despite its intimidating predatory anatomy, its flesh is described as surprisingly tasty.

Barraskewda Size Comparison: BETA
Barraskewda is listed at 4' 3" (1.3 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
