Celebi Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Celebi in a Playthrough
Celebi is a balanced Psychic/Grass Mythical Pokemon with exactly base 100 in every stat, giving it unusual freedom to function as an attacker, defensive support Pokemon, setup sweeper, or utility specialist depending on its moveset. Psychic and Grass STAB provide useful offense against Water, Ground, Fighting, Poison, and Rock-related matchups, while Calm Mind or Nasty Plot, recovery, Leech Seed, Heal Bell, Baton Pass, screens, and broad coverage can support many different play styles across generations. Natural Cure from Generation III onward is particularly useful during long adventures because switching Celebi out automatically removes major status conditions, making burns, poison, paralysis, and sleep much less persistent than they are for most Pokemon. Its defensive typing is the major drawback: Celebi has seven weaknesses, including a quadruple Bug weakness, so its excellent all-around stats do not make careless switching safe. In practice Celebi almost never influences an ordinary first-time story playthrough because it has historically been distributed as a Mythical event Pokemon, with special exceptions such as the GS Ball encounter in compatible versions of Pokemon Crystal.
Celebi in Competitive Pokémon
Celebi has had an unusually varied competitive career because its perfectly balanced base 100 stats and enormous support movepool allow it to fill roles ranging from defensive cleric to offensive setup sweeper. In Generation II it was placed in Ubers, where Leech Seed, Recover, Heal Bell, and resistances to common Water, Electric, and Ground attacks made it an exceptionally durable support Pokemon capable of stalling major threats and curing status for an entire team. In later standard formats Celebi became known for Natural Cure, Recover, Stealth Rock, Baton Pass, Perish Song, U-turn, Healing Wish, Calm Mind, and Nasty Plot, with offensive sets using its solid Speed and coverage while defensive sets exploited its many resistances. Generation VII UU still treated Celebi as a potent sweeper and stallbreaker, demonstrating how long its combination of Nasty Plot and broad utility remained relevant even after power creep pushed it below top-tier usage. Its largest competitive weakness has always been typing: seven weaknesses, especially the quadruple Bug weakness and vulnerability to Pursuit in generations where that move existed, can turn Celebi's otherwise excellent defensive profile into a liability against properly prepared teams.
Celebi in Nuzlockes
Celebi can be an exceptional Nuzlocke Pokemon if Mythical Pokemon are permitted and legitimately obtainable because balanced base 100 stats provide good bulk, Speed, and offense without any single glaring statistical weakness. Natural Cure is especially valuable in a permadeath format because switching Celebi out removes major status conditions, reducing the long-term danger of burns, poison, paralysis, and sleep and conserving healing resources. Recover, Leech Seed, screens, Heal Bell, setup moves, and broad coverage can make Celebi highly adaptable to individual boss fights, while resistances to Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Psychic create many favorable switch opportunities. The tradeoff is one of the largest weakness lists among Mythical Pokemon: Bug attacks deal quadruple damage and Dark, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Ice, and Poison are also super effective, meaning opponent coverage must be checked carefully. Most Nuzlockes never face the decision at all because Celebi has historically been event-restricted, but in a ruleset that permits its special encounters it is a powerful and unusually flexible team member rather than a simple overpowering sweeper.

Celebi Biology and Behavior
Celebi is a mysterious forest guardian known as the 'Voice of the Forest' that can move freely through time and may even exist in multiple points of time simultaneously. Plant life flourishes wherever it appears, and Celebi can directly strengthen damaged vegetation, heal wounds, and draw on the vitality of an entire forest when recovering from extreme injury. It appears only in peaceful times and beautiful forests, leading to the belief that continued sightings of Celebi are evidence that the Pokemon world's future remains bright and prosperous. Its relationship with time extends beyond simple travel: Celebi can sense temporal anomalies and return beings displaced from their proper era, while one long-standing Pokedex tradition claims that it sometimes leaves behind an egg brought from the future before disappearing into the forest. Human cultures have consequently revered Celebi as a guardian or even deity of the forest, with records describing that belief appearing across many different historical eras. Despite its gentle ecological role, Celebi is capable of defending itself with powerful psychic energy, and in Pokemon Colosseum its presence can instantly purify the corrupted hearts of Shadow Pokemon.

Celebi Size Comparison: BETA
Celebi is listed at 2' 0" (0.6 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Celebi currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
