Ceruledge's Weaknesses and Resistances

Evolution Chain

Charcadet can evolve into Armarouge with an Auspicious Armor or Ceruledge with a Malicious Armor.

Ceruledge Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Ceruledge in a Playthrough

Charcadet is obtainable across many parts of Paldea and can become either Armarouge or Ceruledge without a level requirement, but the branch is tied to special armor: Auspicious Armor evolves it into Armarouge and Malicious Armor evolves it into Ceruledge. In Scarlet, Auspicious Armor is obtained in Zapapico by exchanging ten Bronzor Fragments, whereas Violet provides Malicious Armor for ten Sinistea Chips; obtaining the opposite branch normally requires trading for the armor or the evolved Pokémon. Armarouge is the special-oriented branch, combining base 125 Special Attack and 100 Defense with Fire/Psychic typing, while Ceruledge is the physical branch with base 125 Attack, 100 Special Defense, and Fire/Ghost typing; both have a 525 base-stat total. Armarouge's 120-power Armor Cannon is a devastating STAB option but lowers both defenses after use, while Ceruledge's 90-power Bitter Blade heals half the damage dealt and gives it unusually strong sustain for an offensive Pokémon. Flash Fire is generally the most straightforward story Ability for either evolution because it grants a Fire immunity and can strengthen their own Fire attacks, while Weak Armor can create sweeping opportunities after a physical hit at the cost of Defense. Armarouge can combine its STAB with coverage and setup such as Calm Mind, whereas Ceruledge appreciates physical coverage, Shadow Sneak priority, and Swords Dance; Adamant or Jolly commonly suits Ceruledge, while Modest or Timid is usually appropriate for offensive Armarouge. Both later became available in Pokémon Legends: Z-A through Mega Dimension content, but that game's real-time battle system does not use conventional Abilities directly, so Scarlet/Violet Ability interactions should not be projected onto Z-A.

Ceruledge in Competitive Pokémon

The two Charcadet evolutions developed very different competitive identities in Scarlet/Violet. Armarouge is currently listed in RUBL on Smogon's SV Pokédex: it has been too strong for standard RU usage while remaining far less established in OU, and its singles niches revolve around its high Special Attack, Weak Armor speed boosts, and the threat of Armor Cannon, Psychic-type attacks, or Stored Power setup. Weak Armor can be deliberately triggered alongside Endure or a Focus Sash, while Calm Mind and Iron Defense variants can turn Stored Power into a win condition; the downside is that its five common weaknesses and middling base 75 Speed make positioning important. Armarouge also has a much more significant doubles history than that singles tier alone suggests: early Scarlet/Violet VGC prominently paired it with Indeedee-F, using Psychic Terrain and Expanding Force while Armarouge could function as a powerful Trick Room attacker or setter, often with a Quiet nature and very low Speed investment. Ceruledge, by contrast, is currently OU in SV and has remained a dangerous physical setup attacker because Swords Dance, Bitter Blade, strong Ghost STAB, and Shadow Sneak combine immediate pressure, priority, and self-healing; Weak Armor can also turn an otherwise modest base 85 Speed into sweep-level Speed after a physical hit. Focus Sash, Heavy-Duty Boots, Air Balloon, and offensive items have all supported different Ceruledge sets, with Terastallization able either to intensify its offense or remove exploitable defensive weaknesses. By 2026, Pokémon Champions also treats the branches differently: current Smogon Champions material places Armarouge in UU and Ceruledge in OU, with Ceruledge already receiving contemporary Swords Dance analyses. These later-format results should be kept distinct from the much longer Scarlet/Violet history rather than treated as retroactive evidence about their original Generation IX standing.

Ceruledge in Nuzlockes

Charcadet's biggest Nuzlocke weakness is the period before evolution: its base stats are low enough that leaving it unevolved for long exposes it to unnecessary risk, so obtaining the appropriate armor promptly is valuable. The branch choice matters considerably for survival. Armarouge has better physical Defense and powerful ranged special offense, but Armor Cannon's guaranteed Defense and Special Defense drops can make the following turn much more dangerous; a safer Fire move is often preferable when its extra power is not needed. Ceruledge is usually the more self-sufficient long-term survivor because Bitter Blade combines accurate Fire STAB with substantial healing, and Fire/Ghost supplies full immunities to Normal and Fighting attacks in addition to several resistances. Both final evolutions remain weak to Water, Ground, Rock, Ghost, and Dark, so neither should be treated as a universal safe switch despite their useful resistances. Flash Fire is particularly valuable under permadeath rules because an extra immunity creates predictable switch opportunities, whereas Weak Armor is more volatile: the Speed boost can save a sweep, but intentionally accepting physical attacks while lowering Defense increases the punishment for a bad damage estimate. Ceruledge's Shadow Sneak can finish weakened foes without exposing it to another attack, while Armarouge's strong special damage can often remove threats before they retaliate. For either branch, avoiding unnecessary setup against unknown coverage and respecting Armor Cannon's defense drops or Ceruledge's weaker physical bulk gives the line a good survival profile once it has evolved.

Ceruledge Biology and Behavior

Ceruledge is produced by an old set of armor steeped in grudges, and its arm blades are formed from fire and spectral energy tied to the lingering regrets of fallen warriors. Those blades can extend into great swords during battle, and Ceruledge favors close combat, exploiting openings and blind spots rather than Armarouge's head-on style. Its attacks are described as merciless, and wounds from its blades can drain life energy from the victim, a trait reflected mechanically by the healing effect of Bitter Blade. Despite that grim combat behavior, official material also characterizes Ceruledge as loyal to its Trainer; later Legends: Z-A material reinforces that loyalty by describing it as attacking those that direct hostility toward its Trainer.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
