Cyclizar Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Cyclizar in a Playthrough
Cyclizar is a standalone Dragon/Normal Pokémon that can be encountered relatively early in Scarlet/Violet and immediately offers exceptional base 121 Speed, making it faster than most ordinary story opponents without setup. Its offenses are only moderate at base 95 Attack and 85 Special Attack, so its greatest value comes from flexible utility rather than raw sweeping power: U-turn maintains momentum, Rapid Spin removes hazards, Knock Off disrupts held items, and Dragon or Normal STAB provides workable damage. Regenerator is the standout Hidden Ability because every switch restores one-third of maximum HP, synergizing perfectly with a fast pivoting role, while Shed Skin can occasionally clear status at the end of a turn. Cyclizar learns Shed Tail in Scarlet/Violet, sacrificing half of its maximum HP to create a substitute and pass it to a teammate while switching, which can safely enable a slower or more fragile attacker but demands careful HP management. Its Normal typing grants a Ghost immunity alongside Dragon's Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric resistances, but it is weak to Fighting, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy and has only 70/65/65 natural bulk. Terastallization can erase those weaknesses or strengthen an offensive option, though Cyclizar's support role often makes spending the team's Tera elsewhere more valuable. Jolly suits physical utility sets, Timid supports special or Draco Meteor-focused approaches, and mixed sets can function because neither attacking stat is unusable.
Cyclizar in Competitive Pokémon
Cyclizar has one of Generation IX's more unusual tiering histories because its original competitive notoriety came from Shed Tail rather than from its own damage output. Early SV OU banned Cyclizar while Shed Tail strategies were still legal, but on April 18, 2023 Smogon instead banned Shed Tail itself and unbanned Cyclizar after the move was recognized as the underlying problem. Without Shed Tail, Cyclizar settled into a high-value utility role and is currently RU, where Smogon describes it as one of the defining Pokémon of the tier and its premier Rapid Spin user. Base 121 Speed lets it remove hazards or pivot before most opponents, Regenerator repeatedly restores HP as it switches, and Knock Off, U-turn, Dragon Tail, Taunt, and Rapid Spin allow it to compress hazard removal, item disruption, phazing, and momentum into one slot. Assault Vest variants can compensate for its mediocre natural special bulk, while Heavy-Duty Boots sets maximize repeated pivoting and access to status moves. Its main limitation is passivity: base 95 Attack and 85 Special Attack are modest by higher-tier standards, and strong Fighting attackers or faster Choice Scarf users can force it out. Its competitive history therefore shifted from being the delivery system for a banned support move to being valued on its own merits as an exceptionally fast Regenerator utility pivot.
Cyclizar in Nuzlockes
Cyclizar's base 121 Speed and immediate availability make it a useful Nuzlocke pivot because acting first often lets it attack, remove hazards, or escape before taking damage. Regenerator is exceptional for permadeath play when available: U-turn or ordinary switching restores one-third of its maximum HP and reduces dependence on limited healing resources between encounters. Shed Tail can create a powerful safety advantage by transferring a substitute to an incoming teammate, but it costs half of Cyclizar's maximum HP rounded up, so using it from the wrong health threshold can convert a safe Pokémon into a vulnerable one. Rapid Spin removes entry hazards without sacrificing Cyclizar, while U-turn gives predictable positioning and is generally safer than leaving its only moderate 70/65/65 bulk exposed. Its Ghost immunity and four Dragon-derived elemental resistances generate useful switch opportunities, but Fighting, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy weaknesses are common enough that blind switching is dangerous. Shed Skin is less consistent than Regenerator but can occasionally remove poison, paralysis, burn, or sleep without consuming an item. Cyclizar is therefore safest as a fast support Pokémon that repeatedly enters favorable positions rather than as a wall expected to absorb heavy neutral attacks.

Apparently Cyclizar has been allowing people to ride on its back since ancient times. Depictions of this have been found in 10,000-year-old murals.
It can sprint at over 70 mph while carrying a human. The rider’s body heat warms Cyclizar’s back and lifts the Pokémon’s spirit.

Cyclizar Biology and Behavior
Cyclizar is a mild-tempered reptilian Pokémon that has lived closely with humans as transportation since ancient times; Paldean murals show people riding it as far back as 10,000 years ago. The relationship is mutually beneficial because a rider's body heat warms Cyclizar's back and lifts its spirits, while Cyclizar can carry both people and luggage at speeds exceeding 70 mph (120 km/h). It stores energy in folds around its throat, allowing it to run continuously over long distances, and uses its hard head and thick but flexible tail to maintain balance, absorb shock, and attack. Jacq describes basic, battle, and ride postures: it ordinarily moves on four legs, rises onto its hind legs to battle, and in ride posture inflates its throat sac and curls its tail into wheel-like shapes. Koraidon and Miraidon visibly resemble Cyclizar; Scarlet/Violet initially describes them as ancient and future relatives, while later Crystal Pool dialogue characterizes them more specifically as Cyclizar counterparts from parallel timelines.

Cyclizar Size Comparison: BETA
Cyclizar is listed at 5' 3" (1.6 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
