Using Falinks in a Playthrough
Falinks does not evolve, so its base 100 Attack and 100 Defense are available immediately once it is caught rather than being locked behind another level threshold. Its signature move No Retreat raises Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one stage at once, but after using the move Falinks cannot voluntarily switch out, turning setup into a genuine commitment rather than a free omniboost. Close Combat provides powerful and accurate Fighting STAB but lowers both defenses, while Brick Break, Body Press, First Impression, Iron Head, Rock Slide, Megahorn, and other coverage can be chosen when preserving defenses or answering Fairy-, Flying-, and Psychic-type opponents matters more. Battle Armor completely prevents critical hits and is exceptionally valuable for consistency, while the Hidden Ability Defiant raises Attack by two stages whenever an opponent lowers one of Falinks's stats and can punish Intimidate or similar debuffs. Pure Fighting provides resistances to Bug, Dark, and Rock and weaknesses to Fairy, Flying, and Psychic, while base 75 Speed means No Retreat is often needed before Falinks can reliably outrun faster opponents. Mega Falinks, introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, remains pure Fighting but rises to 135 Attack, 135 Defense, and 100 Speed, creating a much stronger version of the same physical setup concept; current Pokémon Champions data pairs the Mega form with Defiant. Jolly is usually best for maximizing the number of opponents Falinks can outrun after No Retreat, while Adamant is appropriate when the team already supplies speed control and wants maximum physical damage.
Falinks in Competitive Pokémon
Base Falinks has historically struggled to convert one of the strongest signature setup moves on paper into sustained competitive success. Sword/Shield classifies it as ZU, where Smogon's analysis calls it unviable because Sawk and other Fighting-types provide greater immediate Attack, Speed, Knock Off utility, or easier positioning without requiring the irreversible commitment of No Retreat. No Retreat does raise every combat stat by one stage and can create a dangerous cleaner if Falinks finds a safe turn, while Defiant punishes opposing stat drops and First Impression can provide immediate priority without setup. The central problem is that base 100 Attack and 75 Speed remain only moderate even after considering the setup requirement, and once No Retreat has been used Falinks cannot switch normally if a Fairy-, Flying-, Psychic-, or physically bulky counter appears. Scarlet/Violet also places base Falinks in ZU, where the same one-note No Retreat sweeping role remains recognizable but is still constrained by mediocre special bulk, limited recovery, and competition from stronger Fighting-types. Mega Falinks is a major 2026 addition: in Pokémon Legends: Z-A and current Pokémon Champions it reaches 135 Attack, 135 Defense, and 100 Speed, while Champions currently uses Defiant and No Retreat as the basis of a substantially stronger setup strategy. Because Mega Falinks has existed only briefly, its long-term tier stability and tournament significance are still developing and should not be retroactively treated as part of base Falinks's weak SS/SV singles history.
Falinks in Nuzlockes
Falinks has one of the best Nuzlocke Abilities available in Battle Armor because critical hits are completely prevented, removing a major source of unexpected deaths from otherwise favorable damage calculations. Base 100 Defense and Fighting resistances to Rock, Bug, and Dark create useful physical matchups, but base 60 Special Defense is much less forgiving and Fairy, Flying, or Psychic attacks can still be lethal. No Retreat is powerful but dangerous in permadeath play because after receiving the omniboost Falinks cannot switch normally, so an unseen counter in a multi-Pokémon battle can trap it in a losing matchup. Close Combat adds a second layer of commitment by lowering both defenses, making Brick Break or Body Press safer alternatives when the extra damage is unnecessary. Defiant is useful against Intimidate and enemy stat-lowering moves, but Battle Armor generally provides the more predictable survival benefit when both are available under the ruleset. Mega Falinks significantly improves Attack, Defense, and Speed and makes a successful No Retreat sweep much easier, but it still retains the same Fairy, Flying, and Psychic weaknesses and the same switching restriction after No Retreat. For a Nuzlocke, the safest strategy is to treat No Retreat as a planned endgame commitment after dangerous counters are identified rather than clicking it automatically at the start of every fight.

Five of them are troopers, and one is the brass. The brass’s orders are absolute.
The six of them work together as one Pokémon. Teamwork is also their battle strategy, and they constantly change their formation as they fight.

Falinks Biology and Behavior
A single Falinks is actually a formation of six separate organisms: five troopers and one larger leader known as the brass. The group normally marches in a single-file Column formation with the brass at the front, giving the combined Pokémon its caterpillar-like silhouette. The brass is the strongest and most intelligent member, and its orders are treated as absolute by the five troopers. During battle the six individuals constantly rearrange their formation, relying on coordination rather than the independent strength of any one member. The brass uses an extendable horn to attack and signal changes in formation, while the troopers protect themselves with shell-like armor and shield structures. Falinks can also compress the formation enough to travel through small holes and narrow crevices.

Falinks Size Comparison: BETA
Falinks is listed at 9' 10" (3.0 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
