Hypno Hypno Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Hypno in a Playthrough
The Drowzee line develops into Hypno, a Psychic-type distinguished more by durability and utility than by the extreme offensive power of Alakazam. Hypno has strong special bulk, respectable overall durability, and access across generations to Psychic STAB, Hypnosis, screens, status, and setup options such as Calm Mind, allowing it to function as both an attacker and a support Pokemon. Its moderate Speed and Special Attack mean it usually clears battles less quickly than faster Psychic-types, but it can survive mistakes and unfavorable neutral hits more reliably than many of them. In Kanto specifically, Psychic is an exceptionally useful offensive type and Hypno can be obtained early enough to remain relevant for much of the game.
Hypno in Competitive Pokémon
Hypno's competitive history is primarily defensive and supportive. Its high Special Defense and broad support movepool have allowed it to switch into special attacks and provide tools such as Wish, Thunder Wave, Taunt, screens, Hypnosis, or Baton Pass depending on generation and format; Insomnia also prevents it from being put to sleep. Smogon analyses have used it as a special wall, stallbreaker, and team supporter rather than as a conventional sweeper, although Calm Mind and more unusual offensive sets have also existed. Its limited offensive pressure and mediocre Speed have generally confined it to lower tiers despite its useful defensive traits.
Hypno in Nuzlockes
Hypno is a strong Nuzlocke Pokemon in games where Psychic typing has favorable matchups because it combines useful offense with a much larger defensive margin for error than frailer Psychic-types. FireRed and LeafGreen community analysis specifically rates Hypno highly, citing STAB Psychic, superior bulk compared with Alakazam, Kadabra, and Mr. Mime, Hypnosis, screens, and Calm Mind as meaningful advantages. Its lower Speed means it cannot rely on moving first as consistently as Alakazam, so strong physical attacks remain a concern despite its excellent special durability. Overall, Hypno is particularly valuable for players who prefer a safer Psychic-type that can contribute both direct damage and support.

Avoid eye contact if you come across one. It will try to put you to sleep by using its pendulum.
When it is very hungry, it puts humans it meets to sleep, then it feasts on their dreams.
Always holding a pendulum that it rocks at a steady rhythm, it causes drowsiness in anyone nearby.
The longer it swings its pendulum, the longer the effects of its hypnosis last.
HYPNO holds a pendulum in its hand. The arcing movement and glitter of the pendulum lull the foe into a deep state of hypnosis. While this POKéMON searches for prey, it polishes the pendulum.

It carries a pendulum-like device. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized.
Seeing its swinging pendulum can induce sleep in three seconds, even in someone who just woke up.

While it is an extremely dangerous Pokémon, people who are in need of a good, sound sleep call it their savior.
As a matter of course, it makes anyone it meets fall asleep and has a taste of their dreams. Anyone having a good dream, it carries off.
In Alola, Komala is Hypno’s main target. It rarely harms people.
There are some Hypno that assist doctors with patients who can’t sleep at night in hospitals.

Hypno Biology and Behavior
Hypno uses the pendulum it always carries to induce sleep and then feeds on dreams. It typically waits along isolated roads for potential prey and is documented carrying away sleepers whose dreams appeal to it, although Alolan populations primarily prey on Komala and attacks on humans there are rare. Not every Hypno uses this ability harmfully: some assist doctors by putting patients to sleep when they are unable to rest naturally. Hypno has also been shown creating convincing illusions, and damage to its pendulum can cause it severe emotional distress.

Hypno Size Comparison: BETA
Hypno is listed at 5' 3" (1.6 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
