Masquerain Masquerain Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Masquerain in a Playthrough
Surskit begins as the unusual Bug/Water combination and evolves into Bug/Flying Masquerain at level 22, meaning evolution completely changes both its offensive and defensive profile. Surskit's Water typing gives useful early-game Water STAB, but Masquerain loses that STAB in exchange for Flying typing, a Ground immunity, Intimidate, and a much broader special attacking movepool. Masquerain was fairly weak statistically in Generations III through VI, but Generation VII raised its Special Attack from 80 to 100 and Speed from 60 to 80, making it much more practical as an offensive story Pokemon. Bug Buzz, Air Slash, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Energy Ball, Quiver Dance, and other options can give it respectable coverage, while Intimidate reduces physical Attack every time it enters battle. The cost of Bug/Flying typing is severe defensive vulnerability, especially a quadruple Rock weakness alongside Fire, Electric, Ice, and Flying weaknesses, so Masquerain remains much safer when used proactively.
Masquerain in Competitive Pokémon
Masquerain has historically lived in low competitive tiers, but it possesses several unusually useful support tools that keep it from being completely interchangeable with other weak Bug/Flying Pokemon. Intimidate provides immediate physical utility, while Sticky Web allows Masquerain to reduce the Speed of grounded opposing Pokemon and support slower offensive teammates; Quiver Dance gives it a separate possibility as a late-game special sweeper. The Generation VII stat increase to base 100 Special Attack and 80 Speed made these offensive sets significantly more credible than they had been in earlier generations. Hydro Pump and Ice Beam provide useful coverage beyond Bug Buzz and Air Slash, but Masquerain's quadruple Stealth Rock weakness, mediocre bulk, and competition from sturdier or faster Sticky Web setters limit its consistency. Its competitive identity is therefore best understood as role compression - Intimidate, Sticky Web, Quiver Dance, and diverse special coverage packed onto otherwise modest stats.
Masquerain in Nuzlockes
Surskit can be an interesting Nuzlocke encounter because Bug/Water typing and early Water offense give it matchups that most early Bug-types do not possess. Evolution into Masquerain adds Intimidate and a Ground immunity, both of which are excellent safety tools, but also creates a quadruple Rock weakness and several additional weaknesses that make switch-ins much more dangerous. Later-generation Masquerain is considerably better offensively because of its stat buffs and can use strong special coverage to end favorable battles before taking too much damage. Quiver Dance can create sweep opportunities, but setup should be reserved for opponents known to be incapable of threatening a critical hit or super-effective response. Masquerain is therefore useful as an Intimidate pivot and targeted special attacker, but Rock coverage should always be treated as potentially lethal.

MASQUERAIN’s antennas have eyelike patterns that usually give it an angry look. If the “eyes” are droopy and appear sad, it is said to be a sign that a heavy rainfall is on its way.
It intimidates foes with the large eyelike patterns on its antennae. Because it can’t fly if its wings get wet, it shelters itself from rain under large trees and eaves.

Masquerain Biology and Behavior
Masquerain uses enormous eye-like patterns on its antennae to make itself appear larger and more threatening, relying on intimidation before committing to a fight. Its four translucent wings can move independently enough for the Pokemon to hover and fly forward, backward, or sideways with helicopter-like maneuverability. That flight system is highly vulnerable to water: wet wings prevent Masquerain from flying, while its absorbent antennae become heavy and droop before or during rain. The species therefore shelters under tree canopies, in hollows, or beneath the eaves of buildings during wet weather and faces toward the sun afterward to dry itself. Drooping antennae have become a traditional sign of approaching heavy rainfall, effectively turning Masquerain's moisture sensitivity into a natural weather indicator.

Masquerain Size Comparison: BETA
Masquerain is listed at 2' 7" (0.8 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Masquerain currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
