Using Sableye in a Playthrough
Sableye is a slow Ghost/Dark utility Pokemon whose value comes from immunities, disruption, and unusual defensive typing rather than high stats. Before Generation VI introduced the Fairy type, Ghost/Dark had no conventional type weaknesses at all; from Generation VI onward Sableye gains a single Fairy weakness while retaining complete immunities to Normal, Fighting, and Psychic attacks. Its base 75 defenses and low HP are only modest, so those immunities matter much more than the raw stat line, while moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Recover, Knock Off, Taunt, Fake Out, Night Shade, or other utility can let Sableye cripple stronger opponents instead of trying to overpower them directly. Prankster, when available, raises the priority of status moves and dramatically improves this support style, although Dark-type opponents became immune to Prankster-targeted status moves beginning in Generation VII. Mega Sableye trades Prankster and Speed for much greater bulk and Magic Bounce in traditional ability-based games, allowing it to reflect many status moves and entry hazards while functioning as a far more durable defensive Pokemon.
Sableye in Competitive Pokémon
Sableye's competitive relevance changed dramatically when Generation V gave it Prankster, allowing Will-O-Wisp, Recover, Taunt, and other status moves to receive priority and turning an otherwise mediocre-stat Pokemon into a disruptive defensive specialist. Generation VI then introduced Mega Sableye, whose 125 Defense, 115 Special Defense, excellent Ghost/Dark typing, Recover, Knock Off, Will-O-Wisp, and Magic Bounce made it a central component of defensive and stall teams. Magic Bounce is especially important because it reflects many entry hazards and status moves, allowing Mega Sableye to challenge hazard setters simply by switching in rather than spending a turn removing hazards afterward. Smogon placed Mega Sableye in Ubers during XY and treated it as a strong OU defensive force in Sun and Moon, illustrating how dramatically Mega Evolution raised the species' competitive ceiling. Its weaknesses remain low offensive pressure, extreme slowness after Mega Evolution, dependence on recovery, and vulnerability to powerful Fairy attacks or setup sweepers capable of exploiting its passivity.
Sableye in Nuzlockes
Sableye can be an excellent Nuzlocke specialist because three complete immunities - Normal, Fighting, and Psychic - create unusually safe switches when an opponent's moveset is known. Before Fairy typing exists it has no conventional type weakness, while later games leave Fairy as its only ordinary weakness, but Sableye's low HP means strong neutral attacks can still hurt substantially despite the favorable type chart. Will-O-Wisp can sharply reduce physical damage, Recover can preserve Sableye through long fights, and Prankster makes several support moves safer by allowing them to act before faster opponents. Mega Sableye adds much better defenses and Magic Bounce, but its low Speed and limited damage output can create long battles in which critical hits or setup must still be respected. The line is safest when used deliberately to exploit immunities and disable specific opponents rather than as a universal wall.

Sableye Biology and Behavior
Sableye is a nocturnal cave-dweller that excavates soil and rock with sharp claws in search of raw gemstones, which form the majority of its diet. The minerals it consumes are gradually incorporated into its body, producing its gemstone-like eyes and the colorful crystals embedded across its chest and back; individual diets can therefore create many different crystal patterns. It actively hunts Carbink for their gemstone bodies, although Gabite frequently compete for the same prey and may seize them before Sableye can. Human folklore treats the species with considerable fear because looking directly into its glittering eyes is said to allow Sableye to steal a person's soul. Mega Evolution tears the red jewel out of Sableye's chest and enlarges it into an almost impossibly hard shield; Mega Sableye hides behind the crystal to block attacks, but supporting the enormous gem makes turning around quickly difficult and leaves its back comparatively exposed.

Sableye Size Comparison: BETA
Sableye is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Sableye currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
