Slaking Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Slaking in a Playthrough
The Slakoth line has one of the strangest progression curves in the series because each evolution changes not only its stats but the basic rhythm of how it battles. Slakoth begins with Truant and can act only every other turn, but at level 18 it evolves into Vigoroth, whose base 90 Speed, balanced 80/80/80 physical stats, Vital Spirit, and access to moves such as Slash, Facade, Brick Break, Bulk Up, and Slack Off make it a much more conventional and reliable story Pokemon. At level 36 Vigoroth becomes Slaking, whose extraordinary 670 base-stat total includes 150 HP, 160 Attack, 100 Defense, and 100 Speed - numbers comparable to or greater than many legendary Pokemon - but Truant returns and forces it to skip every other turn. Slaking can still be devastating in a playthrough by entering battle, landing one enormous Normal attack or coverage move, and then switching during the idle turn, but opponents can exploit the free turns to heal, set up, or attack safely if the player stays in. Because of that drawback, evolving Vigoroth is not an entirely automatic improvement in reliability even though Slaking is vastly stronger on paper; players who value consistency may prefer Vigoroth for part of the game, especially in later generations where Eviolite can enhance its defenses.
Slaking in Competitive Pokémon
Slaking is one of competitive Pokemon's clearest examples of an Ability deliberately restraining otherwise absurd base stats. In ADV it was placed in UUBL and could threaten OU or even Ubers teams with Choice Band-boosted attacks from base 160 Attack and surprisingly strong base 100 Speed, but Truant forced a hit-and-run style in which Slaking was usually expected to attack once and immediately switch rather than surrender a free turn. That limitation has become more punishing over time because Protect, Substitute, setup sweepers, hazards, and modern offensive momentum can all exploit a guaranteed idle turn, leaving standard Slaking far less successful than its raw numbers imply. Vigoroth has occasionally enjoyed the more practical competitive niche: Eviolite, Slack Off, Bulk Up, Taunt or Substitute, base 90 Speed, and Vital Spirit can turn it into a durable lower-tier setup Pokemon that is immune to sleep and never has to skip a turn. The family therefore presents an unusual inversion in which the middle evolution can sometimes be easier to build around competitively than the supposedly overwhelming final form.
Slaking in Nuzlockes
Slakoth is awkward in a Nuzlocke because Truant gives opponents repeated free turns, and its low early Speed can make training unnecessarily dangerous before evolution. Vigoroth is a major improvement at level 18: it is reasonably fast, has balanced physical bulk, cannot be put to sleep because of Vital Spirit, and can use Slack Off for dependable healing. Slaking's immense HP, Attack, Defense, and Speed can erase many opponents in a single hit, but Truant creates one of the most dangerous mechanics in permadeath play because every failed knockout guarantees the opponent an uncontested turn to attack, heal, or set up. Switching Slaking out after each attack can reduce that risk, but repeated switching exposes teammates and makes entry hazards or unfavorable matchups more important. For that reason, Slaking is best used as a calculated hit-and-run weapon rather than a conventional sweeper, and keeping Vigoroth unevolved can be a defensible Nuzlocke choice when consistency matters more than maximum damage.

Slaking Biology and Behavior
Slaking returns to an apparently lazy lifestyle, spending most of the day lying in one place and eating grass or ripe fruit only when food happens to fall or grow within easy reach. Unlike Slakoth, however, this inactivity conceals extraordinary physical power: Slaking is continually conserving energy and can release the accumulated reserve all at once in an explosive burst of strength. It is described as one of the laziest Pokemon known and will often refuse to move until every edible plant or fallen fruit within reach has already been consumed. Wild Slaking inhabit tropical forests, where their enormous bodies may remain sprawled across the ground for long periods without obvious activity. Its biology explains the contrast represented by Truant remarkably well - Slaking is not weak or exhausted, but overwhelmingly powerful while biologically committed to spending as little energy as possible.

Slaking Size Comparison: BETA
Slaking is listed at 6' 7" (2.0 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Slaking currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
