Tandemaus Tandemaus Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Tandemaus in a Playthrough
Tandemaus is obtainable in several Paldean areas before the middle of the story, and it evolves into Maushold when it gains a level in a battle at level 25 or higher; the unusual point is that the evolution may occur without the usual post-battle evolution animation, and the resulting form is normally Family of Four, with Family of Three occurring only rarely. Maushold is a fast pure Normal-type whose base 111 Speed lets it act before much of a normal playthrough, while its otherwise modest offenses make its signature tools more important than raw stats. Tidy Up, available immediately by relearning after evolution, simultaneously raises Attack and Speed while clearing entry hazards and substitutes, giving Maushold unusually efficient setup even in ordinary battles. Population Bomb becomes its defining attack later: it can hit up to ten times, and Wide Lens greatly improves the chance of completing a long sequence of hits; Technician, however, is Maushold's Hidden Ability, so a standard story capture will not automatically have the strongest offensive version of the strategy. Friend Guard is much more valuable in doubles, while Cheek Pouch can give a story Maushold useful Berry-based recovery. Jolly is the clearest offensive Nature because Maushold wants to preserve its excellent Speed, while Adamant can be useful when extra immediate damage matters more than winning the fastest speed checks.
Tandemaus in Competitive Pokémon
Maushold has had a real but specialized Generation IX competitive career, and Smogon currently places it in SV RU rather than treating it as merely a low-tier novelty. Its defining singles set combines Technician with Population Bomb and Tidy Up: one turn of Tidy Up raises both Attack and Speed, while Technician turns each weak Population Bomb hit into a much more dangerous component of a multi-hit attack that also breaks Focus Sash, Substitute, and similar protections. Wide Lens is strongly associated with this strategy because Population Bomb performs a separate accuracy check for each attempted hit, making reliability a major part of the set's damage ceiling. The same contact-heavy design creates pronounced counterplay, since Rocky Helmet, Rough Skin, Flame Body, and other contact punishment can make repeated hits costly or outright disastrous, while Maushold's 74/70/75 bulk leaves it vulnerable to strong priority and revenge killing if it has not secured enough momentum. Terastallization can either amplify Population Bomb with Tera Normal or defensively escape Fighting-type and priority interactions with types such as Ghost, but using the team's Tera on Maushold is a meaningful opportunity cost. In doubles and VGC, Maushold often takes a very different role: Friend Guard and Follow Me make it a redirection and damage-reduction support Pokémon, with Super Fang, Taunt, Beat Up, and Protect providing utility rather than relying on a Population Bomb sweep. That split between singles sweeper and doubles supporter is central to its competitive identity and explains why its modest base Attack has not prevented it from finding legitimate niches.
Tandemaus in Nuzlockes
Maushold is useful in a Nuzlocke because its high Speed and simple Normal typing give it a clear job without burdening the team with many weaknesses, but its mediocre defenses mean it should usually win through positioning rather than absorbing repeated neutral hits. The level-25 evolution is reasonably early and does not require an item, friendship threshold, or multiplayer feature, although the Pokémon must gain the relevant level in battle rather than relying exclusively on passive leveling methods. Tidy Up can turn favorable encounters into sweeps while also removing hazards, but setup should still be reserved for opponents that cannot punish the free turn. Population Bomb is powerful yet more volatile than its headline power suggests: every hit can expose Maushold to contact effects such as Rough Skin, Rocky Helmet, or Flame Body, and without Wide Lens the repeated accuracy checks add additional failure risk. For a permadeath run, a safer single-hit move can therefore be preferable against contact-punishing targets even when Population Bomb would deal more theoretical damage. Cheek Pouch can add practical sustain with Berries, and the Ghost immunity provides safe switches into predicted Ghost attacks, while the lone Fighting weakness is easy to understand and plan around. Overall, Maushold is a strong offensive and utility option when encounters are known, but it has less margin for error than genuinely bulky setup sweepers.

Exhibiting great teamwork, they use their incisors to cut pieces out of any material that might be useful for a nest, then make off with them.
The pair sticks together no matter what. They split any food they find exactly in half and then eat it together.

Tandemaus Biology and Behavior
Tandemaus consists of two separate small, white, mouse-like individuals that function together as a single Pokémon; one has a gray patch resembling a shirt and the other a patch resembling pants, and both have very large mouths containing a single prominent upper incisor. The pair remains together constantly and displays unusually coordinated behavior, dividing any food it finds equally between the two. They also build their nest cooperatively, cutting and gathering useful material with their incisors. How Tandemaus becomes Maushold remains unexplained in-universe, because the smaller individuals present after evolution seem to appear from nowhere.

Tandemaus Size Comparison: BETA
Tandemaus is listed at 1' 0" (0.3 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
