Volcanion Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Volcanion in a Playthrough
Volcanion is a single-stage Fire/Water Mythical Pokemon with base 130 Special Attack, 120 Defense, 110 Attack, and only base 70 Speed. Steam Eruption is its signature Water-type special move and combines very high power with a significant burn chance, while Flamethrower or Fire Blast, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, Focus Blast, Solar Beam, Body Press in later games, Defog in some generations, and coverage give it several offensive or utility roles. Water Absorb grants a complete Water immunity and restores one-quarter of Volcanion's maximum HP when hit by a Water-type attack, which is especially valuable because Water would otherwise hit its Fire typing super effectively. Fire/Water heavily resists Fire, Ice, and Steel, also resists Bug and Fairy, and is weak only to Electric, Ground, and Rock. Its solid 80/120/90 bulk makes it much safer than many wallbreakers, although Stealth Rock and the base 70 Speed can cause problems. Modest is generally best for special offense, while Quiet works well under Trick Room and Bold can support more defensive variants.
Volcanion in Competitive Pokémon
Volcanion made an immediate impact on ORAS OU when it was released late in the generation. Fire/Water typing, Water Absorb, 130 Special Attack, and Steam Eruption let it check or punish many of the metagame's important Water-, Fire-, Steel-, and Fairy-types while still functioning as a powerful wallbreaker. Steam Eruption was often compared to an extremely powerful Scald because its burn chance made physical switch-ins risky even when they resisted Water, while Fire Blast, Sludge Bomb, Earth Power, and other coverage punished traditional Water answers. In later generations Volcanion commonly occupied UU or similar tiers, where Choice Specs, bulky utility, Toxic, and Defog sets all took advantage of its strong defensive profile. Its main limitations are base 70 Speed, Stealth Rock vulnerability, and common Electric-, Ground-, and Rock-type attacks. Unlike many Mythical attackers, Volcanion combines genuine defensive utility with immediate offensive pressure rather than depending entirely on speed or setup.
Volcanion in Nuzlockes
Volcanion is unusually safe for an offensive Mythical because Water Absorb creates a full Water immunity and its base 120 Defense makes many physical attacks manageable. Steam Eruption is extremely powerful, but its imperfect accuracy means Flamethrower or another reliable attack can be safer when the matchup does not require maximum damage. Fire/Water gives many useful resistances and only Electric, Ground, and Rock weaknesses, creating a relatively simple matchup chart compared with most dual-type Legendaries and Mythicals. Base 70 Speed means Volcanion often takes the first hit, so known Ground or Electric coverage should not be challenged merely because its overall bulk is good. Modest provides excellent damage without recoil, while a bulkier nature can create an even larger margin in long fights.

It lets out billows of steam and disappears into the dense fog. It’s said to live in mountains where humans do not tread.
It expels its internal steam from the arms on its back. It has enough power to blow away a mountain.

Volcanion Biology and Behavior
Volcanion stores water inside its body and contains an organ that can instantly heat that water into steam. The two cannon-like arms on its back vent the steam at extraordinary pressure, producing blasts powerful enough to reshape terrain, gouge the earth, or according to legend blow away mountains. Volcanion can also use the cannons as propulsion to fly or maneuver, create dense fog for concealment, and manipulate objects. Its water supply is finite; when depleted it cannot use its Water-based abilities until it finds another source, and stories portray Volcanion as a centuries-old Pokemon inhabiting remote mountains or swamps where humans rarely travel.

Volcanion Size Comparison: BETA
Volcanion is listed at 5' 7" (1.7 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
