Yveltal Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Yveltal in a Playthrough

Yveltal is a Dark/Flying Legendary with base 126 HP, 131 Attack, 131 Special Attack, and 99 Speed, giving it genuine mixed-offense flexibility on top of strong natural bulk. Dark Aura strengthens Dark-type moves used by any Pokemon on the field, making Dark Pulse, Knock Off, Sucker Punch, or other Dark attacks noticeably more threatening. Oblivion Wing is Yveltal's signature Flying-type special attack and restores HP based on the damage dealt, giving it rare offensive recovery; Hurricane, Heat Wave, Focus Blast, U-turn, Taunt, Roost in relevant games, and utility such as Defog or Snarl broaden its role further. Dark/Flying grants complete Ground and Psychic immunities and resistances to Ghost, Grass, and Dark, but Electric, Ice, Rock, and Fairy attacks are super effective. Its mixed stats allow either physical or special sets, but Timid is often safest for special offense while Jolly or Adamant can support physical approaches. Because Yveltal is already powerful without setup, it is usually better to exploit its bulk, recovery, and immunities than to force risky boosting strategies in an ordinary playthrough.

Yveltal in Competitive Pokémon

Yveltal has been a defining Ubers Pokemon since Generation VI. Dark Aura makes its Dark STAB exceptionally difficult to absorb, while Oblivion Wing provides offensive recovery and its 126/95/98 bulk lets it repeatedly check threats that frailer attackers cannot. In XY and ORAS Ubers, Yveltal could function as a wallbreaker, Choice Scarf revenge killer, mixed attacker, bulky pivot, or defensive utility Pokemon using combinations of Dark Pulse, Knock Off, Sucker Punch, Foul Play, Taunt, Roost, and Defog. Later generations gave Yveltal an even more important defensive role because its Dark typing and bulk made it one of the most reliable answers to powerful Psychic- and Ghost-type restricted Pokemon, especially Calyrex-Shadow in Sword and Shield. Its main flaws are the Stealth Rock weakness, susceptibility to Fairy and Electric attacks, and the fact that Dark Aura also strengthens opposing Dark moves. Even with those drawbacks, Yveltal's combination of offense, sustain, immunities, and utility gives it one of the broadest competitive resumes among Kalos Legendaries.

Yveltal in Nuzlockes

If Legendary Pokemon are permitted, Yveltal is extremely safe in Nuzlockes because of its high HP, two immunities, and access to recovery through Oblivion Wing or Roost in games where available. Oblivion Wing is especially valuable because dealing damage and healing on the same turn reduces the number of vulnerable recovery turns the player must spend. Ground and Psychic moves can provide completely safe switch opportunities, while Dark Aura helps Yveltal secure knockouts without needing setup. Electric, Ice, Rock, and Fairy attacks remain the principal dangers, and Stealth Rock can wear Yveltal down over repeated entries. Timid can be safer than a power-boosting nature when moving first avoids damage, while defensive or mixed natures are reasonable when Yveltal is being used primarily as a bulky pivot.

Yveltal Biology and Behavior

Yveltal is the Legendary Pokemon associated with destruction and the absorption of life energy. When its wings and tail spread fully, it can drain life from surrounding living beings, and stories say that at the end of its own roughly thousand-year lifespan it absorbs the life force around it before transforming into a cocoon-like state to sleep. Animated portrayals show victims of this energy drain becoming petrified, while plants can wither simply from Yveltal's contact. Yveltal is not consistently portrayed as malicious, but it is extremely dangerous when enraged or disturbed, and Xerneas is one of the few beings shown capable of calming it or restoring some of the life it removes.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
