Using Absol in a Playthrough
Absol is a single-stage Dark-type built around an enormous base 130 Attack but only base 75 Speed and 65/60/60 defensive bulk, making it a powerful but relatively fragile physical attacker. Generation III is awkward for Absol because Dark attacks are special by type and therefore ignore its best stat, forcing physical offense to rely on Normal, Ghost, Fighting, or other coverage; the Generation IV physical/special split is a major upgrade because moves such as Night Slash and later Knock Off or Sucker Punch can finally use base 130 Attack as Dark STAB. Super Luck can increase critical-hit frequency, Pressure can drain enemy PP, and the later Hidden Ability Justified raises Attack when hit by Dark moves, while Swords Dance can push Absol's damage to extreme levels when a safe setup turn is available. Standard Mega Absol raises Attack to 150, Special Attack and Speed to 115, and gains Magic Bounce in traditional ability-based formats, reflecting many status moves and hazards while supporting physical, special, or mixed offense. Mega Absol Z, introduced later through Mega Dimension, instead becomes Dark/Ghost with base 154 Attack and extraordinary base 151 Speed, gaining immunities to Normal, Fighting, and Psychic while leaving Fairy as its only conventional type weakness.
Absol in Competitive Pokémon
Absol's early competitive career was constrained by Generation III's special Dark typing, which prevented its defining base 130 Attack from powering Dark STAB even though Swords Dance, physical Shadow Ball, Double-Edge, and coverage could still make it threatening in lower tiers. The physical/special split gave standard Absol the offensive identity its stats implied, and later Sucker Punch, stronger Knock Off, Super Luck strategies, and Swords Dance helped it remain a dangerous lower-tier wallbreaker despite poor bulk and only moderate Speed. Mega Absol became a significant XY and ORAS offensive threat through base 150 Attack, base 115 Speed, useful base 115 Special Attack, and Magic Bounce, which discouraged hazards and status while letting it attack from either side of the spectrum. Mega Absol Z is a much newer form and should not be assigned the same historical résumé: its Dark/Ghost typing, base 154 Attack, and base 151 Speed instead define an extremely fast physical profile with three immunities and only a Fairy weakness, though the same 65/60/60 bulk remains. Across every form, Absol succeeds by forcing immediate offensive respect rather than absorbing attacks; prediction, priority, and safe entry are far more important than defensive longevity.
Absol in Nuzlockes
Absol can be an excellent Nuzlocke attacker because base 130 Attack arrives without any evolution requirement and its Dark typing provides a complete Psychic immunity. The line's weakness is survivability: base 60 defenses leave very little room for incorrect damage estimates, and ordinary Absol's Fighting, Bug, and later Fairy weaknesses can be especially dangerous because base 75 Speed does not guarantee moving first. Sucker Punch can eliminate faster attacking opponents but depends on the target actually choosing an attacking move, making it much less reliable when enemy behavior is uncertain. Standard Mega Absol greatly improves Speed and Magic Bounce can reflect many status or hazard moves in ability-based formats, but its defenses remain unchanged, so Mega Evolution does not turn it into a tank. Mega Absol Z offers even greater offensive safety through base 151 Speed and Normal, Fighting, and Psychic immunities, yet the same frail defenses mean a strong neutral hit or Fairy attack can still end the matchup abruptly.

Absol Biology and Behavior
Absol lives in remote mountain environments and possesses an extraordinary sensitivity to subtle changes in the sky and land, allowing it to predict earthquakes, tidal waves, and other natural disasters before they occur. It descends from its isolated habitat specifically to warn humans of approaching danger, but because disaster repeatedly followed its appearances, people historically blamed Absol for causing the very catastrophes it was trying to prevent and named it the Disaster Pokemon. Later understanding reversed much of that superstition, and Absol is now also remembered as a protector that has helped safeguard fields and settlements by providing advance warning. Its sickle-shaped horn is central to this sensory ability and can continue detecting danger even while Absol sleeps; the species can live for roughly a century and is described as moving with wind-like speed when necessary. Standard Mega Absol intensifies its frightening aura so greatly that fainthearted observers can collapse from shock, despite Absol itself disliking unnecessary fighting, while Mega Absol Z manipulates its dark fur into sharp clawlike structures and is described as ending battles with a single merciful blow intended to prevent prolonged suffering.

Absol Size Comparison: BETA
Absol is listed at 3' 11" (1.2 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Absol currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
