Using Chimecho in a Playthrough
The Chimecho family is unusual historically because Chimecho debuted alone in Generation III and the baby stage Chingling was added in Generation IV; Chingling evolves into Chimecho when leveled with high friendship during the night. Standard Chimecho is a pure Psychic special attacker and support Pokemon with Levitate, giving it a valuable Ground immunity while Psychic STAB, Calm Mind, screens, Heal Bell, Yawn, Recover in later movepools, and broad support options allow it to contribute without overwhelming raw power. Its stats were improved beginning in Generation VII to 75 HP, 80 Defense, 95 Special Attack, 90 Special Defense, and 65 Speed, making modern Chimecho appreciably sturdier than the original Hoenn version while retaining the same general role. Mega Chimecho, introduced in the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, becomes Psychic/Steel and jumps to 110 Defense, 135 Special Attack, and 120 Special Defense; in ability-enabled formats it retains Levitate, creating an especially strong defensive profile with a Ground immunity despite Steel's normal Ground weakness. The family's main practical drawbacks are Chingling's friendship-and-night evolution requirement, Chimecho's middling Speed, and weaknesses to Ghost and Dark attacks, with Mega Chimecho also needing to respect Fire.
Chimecho in Competitive Pokémon
Chimecho had a legitimate niche in ADV NU, where Levitate, Psychic typing, useful special bulk, and a deep support movepool made it one of the tier's more flexible Psychic-types rather than a simple novelty. Calm Mind sets could threaten to sweep or pressure defensive teams, while Heal Bell, Yawn, Toxic, Reflect, Light Screen, and other utility allowed Chimecho to support teammates and exploit its Ground immunity and Fighting resistance. Power creep gradually pushed standard Chimecho toward lower relevance despite later stat buffs, since its base 65 Speed and merely good base 95 Special Attack are difficult to distinguish from stronger modern Psychic-types. Mega Chimecho substantially changes that equation with Psychic/Steel typing and base 135 Special Attack backed by 110 Defense and 120 Special Defense, giving it much greater offensive and defensive presence; official current data also lists Levitate, preserving a Ground immunity in ability-based formats. Because Mega Chimecho is a 2025 addition rather than a form with decades of established singles history, its long-term tier legacy is still developing, but its raw profile clearly shifts the species from niche support toward a slow, powerful, unusually resilient special attacker.
Chimecho in Nuzlockes
Chingling is a somewhat awkward Nuzlocke investment because it must reach high friendship and then level at night before gaining Chimecho's significantly better stats, making the timing of evolution dependent on both care and the game's clock. Once evolved, Levitate supplies a complete Ground immunity and Chimecho's respectable special bulk, Psychic offense, screens, status, and healing or cleric tools can create safe utility against predictable opponents. Bug, Ghost, and Dark attacks are the main dangers for ordinary Chimecho, and its modest physical Defense means strong neutral physical moves also deserve respect. Mega Chimecho is dramatically safer where available: Psychic/Steel provides numerous resistances, its defenses rise to 110/120, and Levitate removes the Ground weakness in formats that use abilities, leaving Fire, Ghost, and Dark as the most important conventional threats. The line therefore changes from a fragile friendship project into a useful support Pokemon, and in its newest Mega form into a much more forgiving defensive-special attacker.

Can emit waves of air powerful enough to knock out prey taller than itself. I hypothesize that it amplifies the faint sound of wind within its body.

Chimecho Biology and Behavior
Chimecho has a hollow wind-chime-like body that amplifies even faint air currents into powerful vibrations, allowing it to produce ultrasonic waves capable of startling opponents or knocking much larger prey unconscious. It possesses seven distinct echoing cries used to communicate with others of its species, making vocal variation an important part of its social behavior rather than merely a battle technique. A suction cup on top of the body allows Chimecho to hang from tree branches or building eaves, while its long tail can pluck Berries and other food; it is omnivorous and becomes especially active during warm weather and at night. Rather than powering conventional flight, Chimecho rides natural winds, allowing air currents to carry its light body between habitats. Mega Chimecho surrounds itself with seven resonating bell-like ornaments whose combined cries can soothe listeners and are said to purify malice and evil spirits, yet the same resonance can be weaponized in every direction so violently that victims become detached from reality, lose memories, and may even forget who they are.

Chimecho Size Comparison: BETA
Chimecho is listed at 2' 0" (0.6 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
