Chinchou Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Chinchou in a Playthrough
The Chinchou line offers one of the most useful and unusual type combinations available during many playthroughs: Water/Electric gives it strong STAB coverage against Fire-, Ground-, Rock-, Water-, and Flying-type opponents while leaving only Grass and Ground as ordinary weaknesses. Chinchou evolves into Lanturn at level 27, gaining an enormous HP stat and enough Special Attack and Special Defense to function as a durable special attacker even though its raw offensive power is only moderate. Surf paired with Thunderbolt, Discharge, or another Electric attack provides reliable dual-STAB coverage, while Ice coverage, Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray, and other support options can fill gaps depending on generation. From Generation III onward, Volt Absorb can make Lanturn completely immune to Electric attacks and heal it when they connect, creating particularly valuable switching opportunities for teams that also use Water- or Flying-types. Its main weaknesses are low physical Defense and below-average Speed, so its huge HP pool should not be mistaken for universal durability, especially against strong Ground attacks.
Chinchou in Competitive Pokémon
Lanturn has maintained a recognizable lower-tier competitive niche for many generations as a bulky special tank and momentum-generating pivot. Its Water/Electric typing supplies valuable resistances to Fire, Water, Ice, Flying, and Steel, while Volt Absorb adds an Electric immunity and lets Lanturn block opposing Volt Switch attempts while recovering health. Later generations made the role especially coherent through its own slow Volt Switch, which can absorb an attack and then bring a frailer teammate into battle safely, while Scald, Heal Bell, Toxic, Thunder Wave, and Ice coverage provide additional support. Its enormous base 125 HP and respectable Special Defense make it much sturdier against special attacks than its overall base-stat total suggests, and Lanturn was already a notable UU special tank as far back as Generation II. Poor physical Defense, common Grass and Ground coverage, modest offensive stats, vulnerability to entry-hazard wear, and the absence of convenient reliable recovery keep it from functioning as an all-purpose wall.
Chinchou in Nuzlockes
The Chinchou line is an excellent Nuzlocke encounter when available because Water/Electric typing combines broad offensive coverage with a compact weakness profile and Lanturn's huge HP pool. Lanturn can handle many Water-, Fire-, Ice-, and Flying-type opponents safely, and a Volt Absorb individual gains a complete Electric immunity that can create predictable, damage-free switches and even restore health. Its low physical Defense is the major trap: strong Earthquake users can deal enormous damage despite Lanturn's impressive-looking HP total, and Grass attacks are also dangerous because they exploit its other weakness. Chinchou itself is reasonably usable while training toward the level-27 evolution, so the line usually requires less babysitting than many late-blooming Pokemon. Because it combines two commonly needed attacking types in one team slot while also offering defensive utility, Lanturn can be especially valuable in Nuzlockes where encounter limitations make role compression important.

Chinchou Biology and Behavior
Chinchou lives on dark ocean floors and carries a pair of glowing antennae that developed from fins, each containing electricity-generating cells powerful enough to make Chinchou's own body tingle. Electrical current illuminates the bulbs at the ends of the antennae, allowing Chinchou to lure prey through the darkness before stunning it with discharges produced by positive and negative electrical charges. The lights are not used only for hunting: Chinchou also flashes them to communicate with others of its species and to claim territory. Although strongly associated with deep water and rarely seen near the surface, animated depictions have shown Chinchou capable of moving on land as well.

Chinchou Size Comparison: BETA
Chinchou is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Chinchou currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
