Glastrier Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Glastrier in a Playthrough
Glastrier is obtained through The Crown Tundra's Calyrex storyline if the player plants Carrot Seeds in the Snowslide Slope field and grows an Iceroot Carrot, making it mutually exclusive with Spectrier during the initial story choice. After Calyrex tames it and the player eventually catches Ice Rider Calyrex, the Reins of Unity can separate the pair so Glastrier can be used independently. Standalone Glastrier is a pure Ice physical tank with 100 HP, 145 Attack, 130 Defense, 110 Special Defense, and only 30 Speed, so it is exceptionally powerful and bulky but almost always moves last outside Trick Room. Icicle Crash is its main high-power physical Ice STAB in Sword/Shield, while Generation IX also provides safer options such as Ice Spinner; Close Combat, High Horsepower, Crunch, Heavy Slam, and similar coverage let it punish common Ice resists. Chilling Neigh raises Attack by one stage whenever Glastrier directly knocks out a Pokémon with a damaging move, allowing it to snowball through teams once it secures the first KO. Its pure Ice typing is much worse defensively than its raw stats, giving only an Ice resistance and weaknesses to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel, while Stealth Rock also punishes repeated switching. Trick Room support is the clearest way to turn base 30 Speed into an advantage, but even without it Glastrier can often survive a neutral hit and retaliate extremely hard.
Glastrier in Competitive Pokémon
Glastrier finished Sword/Shield in ZUBL and currently remains ZUBL in Scarlet/Violet, but its most important competitive success came in doubles rather than standard singles. In lower-tier SS singles, 145 Attack and excellent 100/130/110 bulk made it a frightening wallbreaker with Icicle Crash, Close Combat, High Horsepower, and Crunch, while Chilling Neigh threatened to turn one knockout into an escalating sweep. Its base 30 Speed and poor pure-Ice defensive typing nevertheless made ordinary singles positioning difficult, and common hazards plus weaknesses to Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel repeatedly limited how often it could enter safely. Early Crown Tundra VGC was a much better environment: Glastrier became one of the premier Trick Room Dynamax attackers, where its low Speed became an advantage, Dynamax patched its HP, Weakness Policy could exploit its natural bulk, and Chilling Neigh rewarded every knockout. Scarlet/Violet removed Dynamax and introduced much faster offensive pressure, leaving standalone Glastrier primarily a lower-tier breaker even though snow now grants Ice-types a 50% physical Defense boost. Terastallization can improve its defensive typing or amplify coverage, but it does not solve the need for careful speed control and hazard management. Its historical reputation should therefore distinguish standalone Glastrier from Ice Rider Calyrex: the fused Calyrex form is an entirely separate Uber-level entity, whereas Glastrier itself has been a dangerous lower-tier singles breaker and a notably stronger Generation VIII Trick Room Pokémon.
Glastrier in Nuzlockes
Glastrier is naturally suited to Nuzlocke play because 100 HP, 130 Defense, and 110 Special Defense give it enormous raw bulk, while base 145 Attack means it rarely needs multiple setup turns to threaten a knockout. The major safety issue is base 30 Speed: Glastrier almost always takes an attack before moving, so every matchup should be evaluated around the incoming hit rather than assuming its offense will prevent damage. Chilling Neigh is extremely valuable in multi-Pokémon trainer battles because the first knockout raises Attack automatically and can make subsequent knockouts easier without spending a turn on setup. In Generation IX, snow further raises its physical Defense by 50%, giving an already massive base 130 Defense even more margin against physical attackers. Ice Spinner is perfectly accurate and therefore safer for routine use than Icicle Crash, whose 90% accuracy introduces unnecessary risk when the additional power is not required; Close Combat should also be used selectively because it lowers both defenses after attacking. Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel attacks remain dangerous despite Glastrier's bulk, and Stealth Rock chip matters because a slow Pokémon often needs as much HP as possible before entering combat. Trick Room support can turn its greatest weakness into an advantage, but even without Trick Room Glastrier is safest when switched into attacks it is known to survive rather than used as a blind lead.

Glastrier Biology and Behavior
Glastrier is an immensely strong equine Legendary that generates extremely cold air inside its body and releases that cold through its nose and hooves. An ice mask covers part of its face and is described as roughly one hundred times harder than diamond, while additional ice forms its mane, tail, and armor-like coverings around the legs. Although Glastrier runs slowly, it can freeze the ground beneath itself and slide across the resulting ice at high speed, allowing it to cross deep snow and difficult roads. It is aggressive, proud, and territorial, once ruling the Crown Tundra like a lord and terrorizing people who entered its domain until Calyrex defeated and tamed it with the Reins of Unity. Glastrier respects strength, seeks worthy opponents, and is willing to serve only someone it considers powerful enough; it also has a strong fondness for carrots, particularly Iceroot Carrots.

Glastrier Size Comparison: BETA
Glastrier is listed at 7' 3" (2.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
