Mew Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Mew in a Playthrough
Mew has perfectly balanced base stats of 100 in every category and access to an enormous portion of the series' teachable movepool, allowing it to fill almost any story role the team lacks. It can be built as a physical or special attacker, setup sweeper, support Pokemon, status user, or utility specialist without suffering from a major statistical weakness. Its overwhelming limitation is availability: Mew is traditionally a Mythical event Pokemon or special gift rather than a normal encounter, so most ordinary playthroughs cannot obtain it through standard progression. Where legitimately available early, its flexibility can remove much of the usual team-building constraint.
Mew in Competitive Pokémon
Mew's competitive identity is extreme unpredictability. Balanced stats and one of the broadest movepools in the series let it use hazards, recovery, status, Taunt, Baton Pass in historical formats, Nasty Plot, Swords Dance, Transform, and many other strategies, making its set difficult to identify from team preview alone. It has rarely relied on overwhelming raw power because many specialized Pokemon exceed its individual offensive stats; instead, role flexibility and surprise value define it. Different generations have used Mew as a lead, stallbreaker, defensive utility Pokemon, setup sweeper, or support piece.
Mew in Nuzlockes
Mew would be an exceptionally safe Nuzlocke team member if legitimately obtainable because 100/100/100 bulk, good Speed, reliable recovery options, and nearly unrestricted coverage make it easy to tailor to upcoming bosses. In practice, event or gift availability and common bans on Mythical Pokemon mean it is rarely part of a standard run. Unlike a specialized legendary, Mew's greatest value is adaptability: it can replace a missing coverage type or support role without requiring the rest of the team to change. The decision to allow it is therefore primarily a ruleset question.

Mew Biology and Behavior
Mew is covered in extremely fine hair that is difficult to see without close observation and is described as playful, curious, intelligent, shy, and capable of deliberate acts of protection. Pokemon-world researchers theorize that its genetic material contains information shared across Pokemon species, contributing to the hypothesis that it may be an ancestral Pokemon. It can levitate, teleport, become invisible at will, transform into other Pokemon, and learn an unusually broad range of moves, while animated portrayals show it using protective psychic energy around itself and others.

Mew Size Comparison: BETA
Mew is listed at 1' 4" (0.4 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Mew currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
