Using Moltres in a Playthrough
Kantonian Moltres is a powerful Fire/Flying special attacker with strong Fire STAB, useful resistances, and good overall stats, but its quadruple Rock weakness and late Kanto availability reduce practical story value. Later generations improve its defensive utility through Flame Body and recovery options, while strong Fire and Flying attacks let it threaten many neutral targets. Galarian Moltres becomes Dark/Flying and emphasizes special bulk and setup, with Berserk increasing Special Attack after its HP drops below half. Both are strong individual Pokemon whose main-story contribution is limited mostly by when and where they become obtainable.
Moltres in Competitive Pokémon
Kantonian Moltres has filled both offensive and defensive competitive roles, using strong Fire/Flying attacks, Roost, and Flame Body to punish contact while maintaining pressure. Stealth Rock is a severe structural weakness because standard Moltres loses half its health when switching into a full layer without mitigation. Galarian Moltres trades this weakness profile for Dark/Flying and has become a bulky setup attacker using Nasty Plot, Agility or other boosting strategies alongside Berserk, which rewards surviving below half health. Its substantial special bulk often gives it opportunities to set up that more fragile sweepers would not receive.
Moltres in Nuzlockes
Kantonian Moltres can overwhelm many late opponents if legendaries are allowed, but it is usually obtained so late that most of the run has already been decided. The quadruple Rock weakness and only moderate physical bulk create avoidable but serious risks. Galarian Moltres is particularly safe against special attackers because of its bulk and useful immunities, though its weaknesses still need planning. As with Articuno and Zapdos, many Nuzlocke rulesets exclude the species before battle quality even becomes relevant.

Moltres Size Comparison: BETA
Moltres is listed at 6' 7" (2.0 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
