Zapdos Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Zapdos in a Playthrough
Kantonian Zapdos is one of the most broadly useful legendary Pokemon for story play, combining excellent Special Attack, good Speed and bulk, Electric/Flying typing, a Ground immunity, and strong Electric offense against Water- and Flying-types. Its typing has only Rock and Ice weaknesses under ordinary conditions, and later abilities such as Pressure or Static add additional utility. Galarian Zapdos instead becomes Fighting/Flying and is a powerful physical attacker with Defiant, using Fighting and Flying STAB to pressure very different targets. As with the other legendary birds, acquisition is late or optional enough that raw strength exceeds actual main-story contribution.
Zapdos in Competitive Pokémon
Kantonian Zapdos has one of the strongest competitive histories among the original legendary trio, repeatedly functioning as a durable offensive or defensive pivot with Electric/Flying STAB, Roost, Volt Switch, Defog, and Static or Pressure. Static can punish contact attackers while its typing and bulk create numerous switch opportunities. Galarian Zapdos is a physical wallbreaker whose Fighting/Flying STAB combination, high Attack, U-turn, and Defiant make stat-lowering abilities such as Intimidate potentially dangerous for the opponent. The two forms therefore occupy almost opposite roles: Kantonian Zapdos pivots and absorbs pressure, while Galarian Zapdos applies direct physical pressure.
Zapdos in Nuzlockes
If allowed, Kantonian Zapdos is an outstanding Nuzlocke encounter because good bulk, Speed, few weaknesses, Ground immunity, and powerful Electric STAB create unusually safe matchups. Its Kanto timing still means it cannot influence the early and middle game, and Ice or Rock coverage must be respected. Galarian Zapdos provides greater direct physical offense but has more weaknesses and less defensive flexibility. Legendary restrictions are again the largest non-mechanical factor in whether either form belongs in a Nuzlocke team.

Zapdos Biology and Behavior
Zapdos is strongly associated with thunderstorms and is said to gain power when struck by lightning. Flapping its wings releases electrical energy and can contribute to thunderstorm conditions, while lightning itself is used to communicate with other Electric-type Pokemon. Wild individuals are territorial and are usually associated with storm clouds or electrically active locations.

Zapdos Size Comparison: BETA
Zapdos is listed at 5' 3" (1.6 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Zapdos currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
