Aerodactyl Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Aerodactyl in a Playthrough
Aerodactyl is a very fast physical Rock/Flying attacker whose 130 base Speed lets it outspeed most story opponents immediately. Strong Rock and Flying attacks, Earthquake and other physical coverage, and abilities such as Rock Head allow it to exploit that Speed, while Mega Aerodactyl adds substantially greater Attack and Tough Claws where Mega Evolution is available. Its defenses are only moderate and Rock/Flying leaves several common weaknesses, so it relies on moving first more than absorbing hits. In Kanto it is revived from Old Amber relatively late, meaning training time and limited remaining story content reduce its practical value despite excellent raw stats.
Aerodactyl in Competitive Pokémon
Aerodactyl has a durable competitive niche as an exceptionally fast Stealth Rock and Taunt user that can prevent slower leads from establishing their own game plan. Offensive sets use its Speed, Rock STAB, Earthquake, and coverage to revenge kill weakened targets, while Mega Aerodactyl significantly improves Attack and gains Tough Claws for stronger contact moves. Its frailty relative to dedicated walls and weakness to common priority and coverage attacks prevent careless switching. Speed and role compression, rather than sheer durability, define its competitive identity.
Aerodactyl in Nuzlockes
Aerodactyl is excellent at avoiding damage through Speed but less forgiving if it fails to secure a knockout. Kanto fossil timing means the player must invest experience into it late in the run, but once trained it can provide fast Rock/Flying offense for several remaining matchups. Water, Electric, Ice, Rock, and Steel attacks all threaten it, so it should not be treated as a safe blind switch despite its prehistoric reputation and high base-stat total. In planned fights, its Speed makes it one of the safer offensive fossil choices.

Aerodactyl Biology and Behavior
Aerodactyl was a ferocious prehistoric aerial predator with serrated teeth capable of tearing flesh and grasping feet used to seize prey while flying. Pokedex descriptions suggest it traveled primarily by gliding with its large wings and was comparatively slow on land. It nested in secluded mountain environments and is repeatedly characterized as aggressive and dangerous. Modern fossil-restoration technology may not recreate Aerodactyl exactly as it existed in prehistory. Mega Evolution awakens dormant genes that cover parts of its body in jagged stone, some described as harder than diamond, and some Pokemon-world researchers believe this more heavily armored form may more closely resemble the original ancient animal.

Aerodactyl Size Comparison: BETA
Aerodactyl is listed at 5' 11" (1.8 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
