Mudsdale Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Mudsdale in a Playthrough

Mudbray evolves into Mudsdale at level 30, giving the line a practical evolution point and making it a strong midgame-to-endgame Ground-type in every region where it is obtainable during the main story. Mudsdale's base 125 Attack, 100 HP, and 100 Defense combine well with Ground STAB such as High Horsepower or Earthquake, while Rock, Steel, and Fighting coverage can handle many Pokémon that resist or avoid Ground attacks. Stamina is generally its most valuable Ability because every damaging hit raises Defense by one stage, allowing Mudsdale to become progressively harder for physical opponents to break; later-generation Body Press can convert those Defense boosts directly into stronger Fighting-type damage. Own Tempo and Inner Focus have also improved in later generations because both now protect against Intimidate in addition to their original effects, which can matter against physical teams, although they usually lack Stamina's broad defensive value in ordinary play. The major drawback is base 35 Speed, meaning Mudsdale almost always takes a hit before attacking, and Ground typing leaves common Water-, Grass-, and Ice-type attacks as serious threats despite its excellent physical bulk. Adamant maximizes its already high physical damage, while Impish is a legitimate choice for players emphasizing Stamina, Body Press, and a more defensive role.

Mudsdale in Competitive Pokémon

Mudsdale has never been an OU singles mainstay, but it has remained a legitimate lower-tier defensive Ground-type across several generations because Stamina, strong physical bulk, and base 125 Attack give it more presence than a passive wall. In Generation VII it was a notable PU Stealth Rock setter that checked physical attackers such as Lycanroc, Stoutland, and Aggron while threatening meaningful damage with Earthquake; Choice Band sets also existed, although low Speed and a shallow movepool limited its wallbreaking ceiling. Its official-format history was stronger than a PU label alone suggests: Mudsdale saw meaningful VGC 2017 use, including top-cut appearances and a place on Andrew Nowak's Athens-winning team, where Assault Vest and its naturally low Speed made it useful both inside and outside Trick Room structures. Sword and Shield placed it in NU, while Scarlet and Violet currently place it in PU, preserving essentially the same identity as a physically bulky Ground-type, Stealth Rock user, and Stamina-based check to contact-heavy attackers. Body Press became an especially natural later-generation addition because Stamina boosts the Defense stat that Body Press uses for damage, allowing defensive momentum to become offensive pressure. Its long-term limitations are also consistent: no dependable recovery outside Rest or items, very low Speed, common Water/Grass/Ice weaknesses, and predictable coverage mean it can be worn down even while repeatedly increasing its Defense.

Mudsdale in Nuzlockes

Mudsdale is exceptionally valuable in Nuzlockes because Stamina directly rewards surviving hits, and unlike many defensive strategies it does not require setup turns before beginning to work. Its Electric immunity provides free switches when enemy movesets are known, while Rock and Poison resistances and strong natural physical bulk give it additional safe entry points. Against physical opponents, every damaging move can make the next one weaker by raising Mudsdale's Defense, and Body Press in later games lets those boosts contribute to damage as well as survival. The Ability does nothing to increase Special Defense, however, so strong special Water-, Grass-, and Ice-type moves remain dangerous and should not be challenged simply because Mudsdale has accumulated several Stamina boosts. Base 35 Speed means it usually has to take damage before attacking, and the lack of reliable healing makes repeated neutral hits, status, and route attrition more important than its impressive one-battle bulk initially suggests. Accurate Ground moves are generally preferable to riskier alternatives in permadeath play, and recoil-heavy options such as Double-Edge rarely justify shortening the lifespan of such a useful defensive Pokémon.

Sun

It spits a mud that provides resistance to both wind and rain, so the walls of old houses were often coated with it.

Moon

Its heavy, mud-covered kicks are its best means of attack, and it can reduce large trucks to scrap without breaking a sweat.

Ultra Sun

It remains calm and unmoving no matter the situation. It mixes dirt with the saliva in its mouth to make a special kind of mud.

Ultra Moon

It can trudge mountain roads without rest for three days and three nights, all the while dragging a 10-ton load.

Sword

Mud that hardens around a Mudsdale’s legs sets harder than stone. It’s so hard that it allows this Pokémon to scrap a truck with a single kick.

Shield

Mudsdale has so much stamina that it could carry over 10 tons across the Galar region without rest or sleep.

Mudsdale Biology and Behavior

Mudsdale mixes dirt with saliva to create an exceptionally durable mud that resists both wind and water and can become harder than stone. That material has direct human uses: old houses have been coated with Mudsdale's mud, and the species is valued both for heavy labor and for pottery made from its unusually high-quality mud. The mud packed around its legs also amplifies its kicks; a single kick is said to reduce a car or large truck to scrap, while its hooves can gouge holes into asphalt as it gallops. Mudsdale is not fast, but its stamina is extraordinary, with accounts describing it dragging loads exceeding ten tons continuously for three days and three nights. In Alola, people use Mudsdale as a Ride Pokémon to cross rough, rocky terrain, giving the species an established transportation role in addition to its agricultural and construction value.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Mudsdale currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
