Using Necrozma Dawn in a Playthrough
Necrozma does not evolve, but it has four mechanically distinct states: base Necrozma, Dusk Mane after fusion with Solgaleo, Dawn Wings after fusion with Lunala, and Ultra Necrozma, which can be reached only in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon by using Ultra Burst from one of the fused forms while holding Ultranecrozium Z. Base Necrozma is a bulky Psychic-type with 127 Special Attack, solid 97/101/89 bulk, base 79 Speed, and Prism Armor, which reduces damage from super-effective attacks and makes its apparent weaknesses less punishing than they would be on most Psychic-types. Dusk Mane becomes Psychic/Steel with 157 Attack and 127 Defense, gaining a huge resistance profile and Sunsteel Strike; Dawn Wings becomes Psychic/Ghost with 157 Special Attack and 127 Special Defense but suffers 4× weaknesses to Dark and Ghost, making it much less forgiving defensively. Ultra Necrozma radically changes the role again, becoming Psychic/Dragon with equal base 167 Attack and Special Attack, base 129 Speed, and Neuroforce, which strengthens super-effective moves; Photon Geyser also uses whichever attacking stat is higher. Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings remain available in later generations through the N-Solarizer and N-Lunarizer, but Ultra Necrozma is a Generation VII-specific transformation because later games do not support Ultranecrozium Z and Ultra Burst. Jolly or Adamant are natural for physical Dusk Mane builds, Timid or Modest support Dawn Wings and special base Necrozma, and Ultra Necrozma can legitimately use Jolly, Timid, Naive, or Hasty depending on whether the set is physical, special, or mixed.
Necrozma Dawn in Competitive Pokémon
Necrozma's competitive history varies dramatically by form and is one of the most form-dependent records in the series. Base Necrozma was RU in Generation VII and is again RU in Scarlet/Violet, where Prism Armor, Calm Mind or Dragon Dance, Stealth Rock, Moonlight, Photon Geyser, and wide coverage give it a flexible bulky-offense niche without making it a top-tier Psychic-type. Dusk Mane Necrozma, by contrast, has been one of the defining Ubers Pokémon since Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon: Psychic/Steel typing, Prism Armor, 157 Attack, strong mixed bulk, Stealth Rock, recovery, Swords Dance or Dragon Dance, and Sunsteel Strike let it check Xerneas historically and later Zacian-C, Calyrex-I, and other elite threats while also threatening sweeps. Dawn Wings has always been much less successful despite enormous Special Attack because its Psychic/Ghost typing carries 4× Dark and Ghost weaknesses and it lacks Lunala's Shadow Shield; both Generation VII and VIII analyses describe it as heavily outclassed, although Trick Room or Ultra Burst access created small niches. Ultra Necrozma was a top Generation VII Ubers threat: base 129 Speed, equal 167 offenses, Neuroforce, broad coverage, and the ability to enter battle disguised as Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings made it extremely difficult to scout, while Light That Burns the Sky supplied a devastating one-time Z-Move. Generation VIII removed Ultra Necrozma but left Dusk Mane as one of Ubers' premier defensive and setup Pokémon, and Scarlet/Violet again places Dusk Mane in Ubers while base Necrozma sits far lower in RU. The family therefore ranges from a good lower-tier bulky attacker to one of the strongest Ubers role-compression Pokémon ever, depending entirely on form.
Necrozma Dawn in Nuzlockes
Base Necrozma is already unusually safe for a Psychic-type because Prism Armor reduces damage from super-effective attacks, giving more margin against Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type coverage than the type chart alone implies. Dusk Mane is generally the safest form for blind play because Psychic/Steel provides many resistances and a Poison immunity while Prism Armor softens its Fire, Ground, Ghost, and Dark weaknesses; reliable Sunsteel Strike also ignores opposing Abilities without recoil or accuracy risk. Dawn Wings is far riskier despite its excellent special bulk because its 4× Dark and Ghost weaknesses can still be catastrophic even after Prism Armor's reduction, and base 77 Speed means those attacks often land first. Ultra Necrozma is exceptionally powerful and fast, but Ultra Burst replaces Prism Armor with Neuroforce and leaves only 97/97/97 defenses, so transforming trades defensive insurance for sweeping power and should not be treated as an automatic safety upgrade. Photon Geyser is especially useful because it is accurate and automatically uses the stronger attacking stat, while setup moves such as Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, or Calm Mind should be limited to genuinely controlled matchups rather than stacked greedily. In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the decision to remain Dusk Mane for bulk or Ultra Burst for Speed and offense is a real survival choice rather than a simple question of which form has the higher base-stat total.

Reminiscent of the Ultra Beasts, this life-form, apparently asleep underground, is thought to have come from another world in ancient times.
Light is apparently the source of its energy. It has an extraordinarily vicious disposition and is constantly firing off laser beams.
It looks somehow pained as it rages around in search of light, which serves as its energy. It’s apparently from another world.
Light is the source of its energy. If it isn’t devouring light, impurities build up in it and on it, and Necrozma darkens and stops moving.
It survives by absorbing light. After a long time spent slumbering underground, impurities accumulated within it, causing its body to darken.
It needs light to survive, and it goes on a rampage seeking it out. Its laser beams will cut anything to pieces.

Necrozma Dawn Biology and Behavior
Dawn Wings Necrozma is created when Necrozma fuses with Lunala and absorbs its light, coating the bat-like body in black crystalline structures while drawing energy from the host. In the forced state depicted in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Lunala loses its own will and continuously expels energy for Necrozma, which uses that supply to sustain a relentless rampage. The fused form inherits Moongeist Beam and can fire dark energy from crystalline spines before rushing opponents with its enormous claws. As with Dusk Mane, later canon establishes that Necrozma and its host can also coexist willingly, although the original story portrays the transformation as a predatory takeover. Its body can open multiple Ultra Wormholes and channels enough absorbed light to approach the threshold needed for Necrozma's true Ultra form.

Necrozma Dawn Size Comparison: BETA
Necrozma Dawn is listed at 13' 9" (4.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
