Petilil evolves into Lilligant with a Sun Stone.

Petilil Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Petilil in a Playthrough

Petilil evolves with a Sun Stone into either Unovan Lilligant or, in Hisui, Hisuian Lilligant. Unovan Lilligant is a pure Grass special attacker with base 110 Special Attack and 90 Speed, and Quiver Dance is its defining setup move because one turn raises Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed simultaneously. Giga Drain or Energy Ball provide reliable STAB, while Sleep Powder, Petal Dance, Leech Seed, and later Pollen Puff or coverage options can support sweeping or utility; Own Tempo is especially useful with Petal Dance because it prevents the usual confusion at the end of the move. Chlorophyll instead doubles Speed in harsh sunlight, while Leaf Guard prevents status under sun. Hisuian Lilligant changes the role completely: Grass/Fighting, base 105 Attack and 105 Speed, Close Combat, Leaf Blade or Solar Blade, and the signature Victory Dance make it a physical setup attacker, with Victory Dance raising Attack, Defense, and Speed in modern turn-based games. Adamant or Jolly suit Hisuian Lilligant, while Timid or Modest are natural for Unovan Lilligant; both forms remain vulnerable to common Grass weaknesses, and Hisuian Lilligant is especially vulnerable to Flying attacks.

Petilil in Competitive Pokémon

Unovan Lilligant was a strong BW RU setup sweeper rather than a generic lower-tier Grass-type. Quiver Dance could simultaneously patch its Speed and Special Defense while pushing base 110 Special Attack to threatening levels, and Sleep Powder often created the free turn needed to begin that setup; Chlorophyll also gave it a secondary role on sun teams. Its recurring limitation was coverage, because Grass STAB plus Hidden Power or a small number of secondary options made Steel-, Fire-, Dragon-, and opposing Grass-types difficult to break without support. Hisuian Lilligant has a very different modern niche: in SV it is primarily a fast physical sun attacker, using Chlorophyll with Close Combat and strong Grass STAB or Victory Dance to function as speed control and a late-game cleaner. Hustle offers even more power but introduces an accuracy penalty, while Victory Dance can make it less dependent on sunlight by boosting Attack, Defense, and Speed at once. The two forms therefore share a setup-oriented identity but succeed through opposite attacking stats and different team structures.

Petilil in Nuzlockes

Petilil and both Lilligant forms can be effective in Nuzlockes, but their safety profiles are different. Unovan Lilligant can use Quiver Dance to improve both offense and special durability and can recover through Giga Drain, but Sleep Powder's imperfect accuracy makes it unsafe as the sole plan for surviving a dangerous opponent. Hisuian Lilligant is more physically aggressive and Victory Dance improves Defense while raising Attack and Speed, yet its Grass/Fighting typing adds weaknesses to Fairy, Psychic, and especially Flying, which deals quadruple damage. Chlorophyll can make either appropriate form extremely fast under sun, reducing incoming damage by letting it attack first, while Hustle should be used cautiously because the accuracy reduction can turn an otherwise favorable fight into a miss-and-death scenario. In runs where a Sun Stone is scarce, the timing of evolution also matters because evolving too early can alter which level-up moves are conveniently available.

The leaves on its head are very bitter. Eating one of these leaves is known to refresh a tired body.

White / Y / Alpha Sapphire

Since they prefer moist, nutrient-rich soil, the areas where Petilil live are known to be good for growing plants.

Black 2 / White 2

The leaves on its head grow right back even if they fall out. These bitter leaves refresh those who eat them.

Sun

Although the leaves on its head are bitter enough to cause dizziness, they provide relief from weariness—even more so when boiled.

Moon

By pruning the leaves on its head with regularity, this Pokémon can be grown into a fine plump shape.

Ultra Sun

Some say if you dry the leaves on its head, boil them down, and drink the infusion, your vigor will return, so Petilil is popular with the elderly.

Ultra Moon

They prefer clean water and soil. When the environment they live in turns bad, the whole bunch will up and move to a new area.

Sword

Petilil appears around sources of clean water. Boiling leaves from this Pokémon’s head results in a liquid that’s sometimes used as a bug repellent.

Shield

The deeper the color of a Petilil’s leaves, the healthier the Pokémon is. Petilil sometimes makes its home in a well-tended field or flowerbed.

Legends Arceus

The leaves on its head are highly valued for medicinal purposes. Dry the leaves in the sun, boil them, and then drink the bitter decoction for remarkably effective relief from fatigue.

Petilil Biology and Behavior

Petilil prefers moist, nutrient-rich soil near clean water, and areas where it lives are considered especially good for growing plants. The three leaves on its head are extremely bitter but can restore energy when eaten, dried, or brewed into an infusion, making the species popular with older people. Those leaves regrow after being removed, and their condition can indicate the Pokemon's health. Petilil leaves an area if the soil or water quality deteriorates.

Petilil is listed at 1' 8" (0.5 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale because leaves or foliage can extend beyond the substantial body.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Petilil is currently tagged for leaves/foliage.
