Using Skarmory in a Playthrough
Skarmory is a single-stage Steel/Flying Pokemon whose greatest playthrough strength is extraordinary physical durability rather than raw offensive power. Base 140 Defense, a Ground immunity, a Poison immunity, and a long list of resistances let it shut down many physical opponents, while its typing leaves only Fire and Electric as ordinary weaknesses. Its offensive stats are modest, but reliable Flying attacks such as Drill Peck or Brave Bird, Steel STAB, and later options such as Body Press allow it to deal respectable damage while support moves like Spikes, Stealth Rock, Whirlwind, Roost, and Defog can give it additional value depending on generation. Sturdy becomes much more useful from Generation V onward because a full-health Skarmory can survive a normally lethal single hit with at least 1 HP; before then, Sturdy only blocked one-hit knockout moves. Pokemon Legends: Z-A also gives Skarmory access to Mega Evolution, temporarily pushing the species beyond its traditional defensive role and giving it a much more aggressive form built around extremely fast flight and powerful talon attacks.
Skarmory in Competitive Pokémon
Skarmory has one of the most distinguished defensive careers of any non-legendary Pokemon. In Generation II it was the defining physical wall of GSC OU, where Steel/Flying typing, base 140 Defense, Whirlwind, Rest, and the absence of a physical weakness made it exceptionally difficult for conventional physical attackers such as Snorlax and Marowak to break. Generation III made it even more influential by giving it Spikes, turning Skarmory into both a premier physical wall and one of ADV OU's central hazard setters; later generations added Stealth Rock, Roost, Defog, Body Press, and the upgraded form of Sturdy while preserving its core defensive identity. Its recurring weaknesses are low HP, mediocre Special Defense, Fire and Electric attacks, and the possibility of becoming passive against special attackers or Pokemon that can exploit repeated support turns. Despite those limitations, Skarmory remained an OU-level defensive staple across numerous generations because very few Pokemon combine its physical bulk, typing, reliable recovery, phazing, and hazard utility so efficiently.
Skarmory in Nuzlockes
Skarmory is an excellent Nuzlocke Pokemon when it can be obtained because its enormous Defense and exceptional Steel/Flying typing create a large number of safe switches against known physical attacks. Ground and Poison immunities are especially useful for planned switching, while numerous resistances let Skarmory absorb physical Normal-, Flying-, Bug-, Grass-, Psychic-, Dragon-, Steel-, and later Fairy-type attacks far more comfortably than most ordinary team members. The main danger is becoming overconfident in that bulk: powerful Fire and Electric attacks hit super effectively, and strong neutral special moves can deal far more damage than Skarmory's physical reputation suggests because its Special Defense is only average. From Generation V onward, Sturdy can function as valuable emergency insurance when Skarmory is at full HP, although prior chip damage, entry hazards, weather, and multi-hit attacks can remove that protection. Skarmory is therefore one of the safest physical pivots available in a Nuzlocke, but it should still be kept away from known special Fire- and Electric-type threats.

Skarmory Biology and Behavior
Skarmory is an armored avian Pokemon whose steel-covered body looks heavy but is built around hollow, lightweight structures that allow it to fly at roughly 185 miles per hour, or 300 kilometers per hour. Young Skarmory nest in thorny bramble bushes, and repeated scratching against the thorns gradually hardens their bodies into the armor-like state seen in adults; battered wings are completely renewed about once each year, restoring the razor edges of the feathers. Those shed feathers are sharp enough that people historically fashioned them into swords and knives, and modern cultures continue to use Skarmory imagery in heraldry and other designs. The metal body is surprisingly vulnerable to rust, causing Skarmory to remain in its nest during rainy weather, while in Galar it engages in violent territorial conflicts with Corviknight. Mega Skarmory pushes its aerial adaptations even further: it can exceed the speed of sound, using shock waves to throw opponents off balance before finishing them with enlarged, sharply armored talons.

Skarmory Size Comparison: BETA
Skarmory is listed at 5' 7" (1.7 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Skarmory currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
