Skuntank Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Skuntank in a Playthrough

Stunky evolves into Skuntank at level 34, producing a Poison/Dark Pokemon with base 103 HP, 93 Attack, 84 Speed, and one of the cleanest defensive type profiles available: Ground is its only ordinary weakness, while Psychic attacks are completely ineffective. The Generation IV physical/special split immediately helps the family because Dark moves such as Night Slash and Crunch can use its stronger Attack, while Poison Jab provides reliable physical Poison STAB and Flamethrower can still exploit base 71 Special Attack against Steel-types in applicable games. Aftermath damages an opponent that knocks Skuntank out with contact, which can matter in ordinary play but is obviously not an ability a player wants to trigger deliberately; Stench gains an actual flinch effect from Generation V onward, while the Hidden Ability Keen Eye prevents accuracy reduction and later ignores opposing evasion boosts. Sucker Punch, Taunt, Toxic, Flamethrower, Crunch or Night Slash, Poison Jab, and later utility such as Defog give Skuntank several practical roles beyond simple attacking. Adamant is useful for straightforward physical offense and Careful can reinforce its special bulk, but even with neutral natures the combination of only one weakness, a Psychic immunity, useful resistances, and respectable HP makes Skuntank a dependable story Pokemon.

Skuntank in Competitive Pokémon

Skuntank was one of DPP NU's most influential Pokemon despite merely good rather than exceptional statistics, largely because Poison/Dark typing and Pursuit let it remove the Psychic-types that structured much of the tier. Smogon specifically highlighted its ability to trap Pokemon such as Slowking, Gardevoir, Grumpig, and Hypno, opening the field for dangerous Fire- and Fighting-type teammates; Sucker Punch supplied priority, Crunch provided reliable Dark STAB, Taunt disrupted defensive play, and Generation IV Explosion could trade Skuntank for a difficult target. The same Pursuit-support identity remained important in BW NU, where Skuntank also absorbed Toxic Spikes simply by entering the field and acted as an excellent answer to many Psychic- and Ghost-types. Later generations expanded its utility with Defog and improved Stench, while Aftermath preserved an emergency punishment for contact attackers, but the removal of Pursuit in modern games erased one of the species' defining historical jobs. Smogon currently places Skuntank in SV ZU, where Knock Off, Gunk Shot or Poison Jab, Sucker Punch, Toxic, Taunt, and utility still give it useful roles, but average defenses and Attack plus a highly exploitable Ground weakness prevent it from recreating its old NU dominance.

Skuntank in Nuzlockes

The Stunky line is exceptionally easy to fit into Nuzlocke teams because Poison/Dark has only one ordinary weakness, grants a complete Psychic immunity, resists several useful types, and prevents ordinary poison status. Skuntank's base 103 HP gives it a comfortable health pool, while base 84 Speed is high enough to move first against many slower opponents without sacrificing the ability to take a neutral hit when necessary. Ground coverage is the major danger and should be scouted carefully, because Earthquake and Earth Power bypass nearly everything that makes its defensive typing attractive. Sucker Punch can safely finish faster attackers but depends on predicting an attacking move, while Explosion and self-sacrificial Aftermath strategies should be avoided entirely when preserving the Pokemon matters. Stench can occasionally create free turns but should never be treated as guaranteed protection, making reliable Dark and Poison attacks, Taunt, and the Psychic immunity far better foundations for risk-conscious play.

Diamond / X / Omega Ruby

It sprays a vile-smelling fluid from the tip of its tail to attack. Its range is over 160 feet.

Pearl / Y / Alpha Sapphire

It sprays a stinky fluid from its tail. The fluid smells worse the longer it is allowed to fester.

Platinum / Black / White / Black 2 / White 2

It attacks by spraying a horribly smelly fluid from the tip of its tail. Attacks from above confound it.

Heartgold / Soulsilver

It attacks by spraying a repugnant fluid from its tail, but the stench dulls after a few squirts.

Sword

In its belly, it reserves stinky fluid that it shoots from its tail during battle. As this Pokémon’s diet varies, so does the stench of its fluid.

Shield

It digs holes in the ground to make its nest. The stench of the fluid it lets fly from the tip of its tail is extremely potent.

Legends Arceus

Sprays a poisonous fluid to take down prey. Sometimes, unable to stomach the stench of its own fluid, it leaves the bested prey uneaten.

Skuntank Biology and Behavior

Skuntank stores noxious fluid in its belly and fires it through an opening at the tip of its enormous tail, reaching targets more than 160 feet away—roughly ten times the range attributed to Stunky. The fluid becomes more offensive the longer it ferments, and its exact smell varies with Skuntank's diet, linking the chemical composition of the weapon directly to what the Pokemon has been eating. It nests in large prickly bushes in heavily wooded areas and digs holes in the ground to construct its den. Skuntank can use the poisonous spray to bring down prey, but the species paradoxically cannot tolerate its own odor particularly well and may abandon a defeated animal rather than approach the stench to eat it. Its primary biological weapon is therefore powerful enough to interfere with its own feeding behavior, an unusually clear ecological cost attached to an otherwise formidable defensive adaptation.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.

Skuntank currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
