Ting Lu Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Ting Lu in a Playthrough

Ting-Lu is a standalone Dark/Ground Legendary Pokémon obtained in both Scarlet and Violet by removing the eight green stakes sealing the Groundblight Shrine and then catching the level-60 Pokémon inside. Its enormous base 155 HP and 125 Defense already make it exceptionally difficult to remove, and Vessel of Ruin multiplies the Special Attack of every other active Pokémon by 0.75, effectively patching Ting-Lu's otherwise ordinary base 80 Special Defense. Dark/Ground provides complete Electric and Psychic immunities plus resistances to Dark, Ghost, Poison, and Rock, but weaknesses to Bug, Fairy, Fighting, Grass, Ice, and Water keep it from switching carelessly into every matchup. Earthquake supplies powerful, perfectly accurate physical STAB from base 110 Attack, while Ruination removes half of the target's current HP when it connects and allows Ting-Lu to make progress even against very bulky opponents. Stealth Rock, Spikes, Whirlwind, Taunt, and status or disruption options can make Ting-Lu a highly effective support Pokémon rather than merely a damage sponge. Its largest practical weakness is recovery: outside Rest it lacks straightforward reliable healing, so repeated chip damage can eventually wear down even its enormous HP pool. Impish maximizes its defining physical durability, Careful strengthens the special side even further behind Vessel of Ruin, and Adamant can be justified for more offensive Earthquake-focused play.

Ting Lu in Competitive Pokémon

Ting-Lu remains OU in Scarlet/Violet and has been one of the generation's premier defensive hazard setters because 155/125/80 bulk and Vessel of Ruin let it withstand attacks from both physical and special threats that would overwhelm most Ground-types. Vessel of Ruin reduces the Special Attack of every other active Pokémon to 75%, allowing Ting-Lu to check dangerous special attackers such as Gholdengo, Iron Moth, Raging Bolt, and Darkrai while its raw Defense also lets it handle many physical attackers. Stealth Rock and Spikes exploit the switches Ting-Lu forces, Whirlwind prevents setup sweepers from using its passivity freely, and Ruination ensures that even exceptionally bulky switch-ins can be worn down without relying on Ting-Lu's modest offensive coverage. Earthquake remains a dependable source of direct damage from base 110 Attack, and Rest sets can extend Ting-Lu's lifespan when a team needs it to repeatedly check high-powered threats. Its weaknesses are long-term attrition, susceptibility to Knock Off and status, six exploitable type weaknesses, and the absence of conventional instant recovery; sufficiently strong wallbreakers can eventually force progress if Ting-Lu is asked to absorb too many hits. In VGC, Vessel of Ruin affects both opposing Pokémon at once and can drastically reduce incoming special damage, while Assault Vest, Ruination, Snarl, Stomping Tantrum, Heavy Slam, Rock Tomb, and defensive Terastallization have supported multiple archetypes since 2023. Unlike Sword of Ruin or Beads of Ruin, Vessel of Ruin can also suppress an allied special attacker's damage in doubles, so teams must account for the Ability's symmetrical cost rather than treating it as free defensive support.

Ting Lu in Nuzlockes

Ting-Lu is one of the safest Legendary Pokémon for a conventional Nuzlocke if Legendary encounters are permitted, because its raw HP and Defense are extraordinary and Vessel of Ruin reduces incoming special offense without requiring a setup turn. Electric and Psychic immunities create predictable switch opportunities, while resistances to Dark, Ghost, Poison, and Rock further expand the number of moves Ting-Lu can absorb comfortably. Earthquake is a particularly good permadeath attack because it is strong and perfectly accurate, while Ruination can control exceptionally bulky opponents but carries 90% accuracy and cannot finish a target by itself. Whirlwind can remove dangerous setup sweepers without attempting to overpower their boosts, although it has negative priority and should not be used casually when Ting-Lu is already in lethal range. The major problem is cumulative damage: Ting-Lu has no ordinary instant recovery move, so Rest or external healing is required to restore a badly depleted HP pool, and six weaknesses give opponents several ways to accelerate that attrition. Vessel of Ruin also weakens a friendly special attacker in Double Battles, potentially prolonging the fight if the team does not account for the effect. Against known opponents whose super-effective coverage has been checked, Ting-Lu provides one of the widest safety margins available in Scarlet/Violet.

Ting Lu Biology and Behavior

Ting-Lu is a gigantic ruinous Pokémon whose visible deer- or moose-like body is constructed from layers of earth and stone. Its true core is the cracked ritual vessel carried on its head: human fear accumulated within that ancient vessel and gave it life, after which Ting-Lu formed the surrounding body through its control over the earth. The vessel is therefore not an ornament but the essential object from which the Pokémon originated. Ting-Lu possesses enough geological power to create fissures more than 160 feet (50 meters) deep simply by slowly lowering its head to the ground, giving the Vessel of Ruin a direct capacity to reshape terrain on a massive scale.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
