Using Cufant in a Playthrough
Cufant evolves into Copperajah at level 34, giving the family a straightforward midgame evolution with no item, friendship, trade, or location requirement. Copperajah is a slow but extremely strong Steel-type built around 122 HP and 130 Attack, with only base 30 Speed, so it usually succeeds by surviving a hit and answering with a very powerful physical attack rather than trying to move first. Steel is excellent for normal play because it provides a Poison immunity and numerous resistances, while the main weaknesses to Fire, Fighting, and Ground are common enough that the player still needs reliable switch partners. Heavy Slam is particularly effective because Copperajah is extremely heavy, while Iron Head offers fixed, accurate Steel damage; Earthquake, Play Rough, Power Whip, Rock Slide, Heat Crash, and Superpower or comparable coverage give it answers to many Pokémon that resist Steel. Sheer Force can boost attacks with secondary effects, whereas Heavy Metal doubles Copperajah's already enormous weight and strengthens weight-based options such as Heavy Slam and Heat Crash in favorable matchups. It can also contribute Stealth Rock rather than functioning only as an attacker, although its lack of reliable recovery means repeated chip damage accumulates quickly over a long route or boss sequence. In Sword and Shield, a Copperajah with the Gigantamax Factor gains G-Max Steelsurge, which damages the target and leaves sharp steel on the opposing field; incoming Pokémon then take hazard damage according to their weakness or resistance to Steel, making the Gigantamax form unusually good at generating value beyond three turns of enlarged attacks.
Cufant in Competitive Pokémon
Copperajah became one of the defining Steel-types of Sword/Shield NU and is much more historically important than its modest overall tier placement might suggest. Smogon ranked it fifth among the Top Ten Titans of Generation 8 NU, noting that when it arrived in the tier its combination of Heavy Slam, Power Whip, Heat Crash, Stone Edge, and other coverage attacks could dismantle defensive cores while still fitting Stealth Rock onto the same set. Its 122 HP and Steel typing also let it check several special attackers and Fairy-types despite only base 69 defenses, and Heavy Metal made Heavy Slam extraordinarily powerful against lighter targets. As SS NU became faster and alternative Steel-types such as Bronzong and later Stakataka competed for teamslots, Copperajah lost some of its earlier dominance, but it remained an effective wallbreaker and hazard setter; the final SS Smogon Dex lists it in NU. Scarlet/Violet also currently lists Copperajah in NU, where its role has shifted somewhat toward a bulky tank that combines Knock Off, Earthquake, Whirlwind or Protect, Stealth Rock, and strong coverage while checking selected special attackers. Its recurring competitive flaw is longevity: Copperajah has no reliable recovery, is very slow, and can be worn down by hazards, pivoting moves, and repeated neutral hits even when its typing initially gives it a favorable matchup. Gigantamax Copperajah's G-Max Steelsurge creates a powerful Steel-type entry hazard, but standard Smogon Sword/Shield singles banned Dynamax and Gigantamax, so that form's most distinctive mechanic belongs to formats where Dynamax is actually legal rather than Copperajah's ordinary NU history.
Cufant in Nuzlockes
Cufant and Copperajah are generally dependable Nuzlocke Pokémon because Steel typing provides a large number of safe switch opportunities and Copperajah's enormous HP gives it meaningful room for error against neutral attacks. The greatest advantage is consistency: strong accurate options such as Heavy Slam in favorable weight matchups, Iron Head, Earthquake, and Play Rough allow Copperajah to deal substantial damage without relying entirely on setup. Its base 30 Speed is the main risk because Copperajah normally takes a hit before moving, so repeated battles can wear it down even when no individual attack looks threatening. Fire, Fighting, and Ground coverage should be scouted carefully, especially from strong physical attackers or special attackers that can exploit Copperajah's merely average base 69 defenses. Sheer Force is often a safer general-purpose Ability than building around weight calculations, while Heavy Metal can make Heavy Slam and Heat Crash extremely strong when the target's weight is known. Stealth Rock is useful in major trainer battles with repeated switching, but in ordinary story play an immediate attack may be safer than giving the opponent a free damage turn. If Gigantamax is available, G-Max Steelsurge can provide lasting field control, but Dynamax's temporary HP increase should not encourage careless play once Copperajah returns to normal size and retains any damage it accumulated.

It digs up the ground with its trunk. It’s also very strong, being able to carry loads of over five tons without any problem at all.
If a job requires serious strength, this Pokémon will excel at it. Its copper body tarnishes in the rain, turning a vibrant green color.

Cufant Biology and Behavior
Cufant is an elephantine Steel-type whose body contains copper, with rain gradually producing the green tarnish visible across parts of its skin. Its trunk ends in a shovel-like shape that it uses to dig through earth and carve out rocks and ore, which form part of its diet. Despite its small size, a Cufant can carry loads weighing more than five tons with little difficulty. Cufant is naturally docile and travels in herds; in the morning, groups head into caves to search for the ore they eat. The species was brought to regions such as Galar and Paldea to assist humans with heavy labor, establishing a long practical relationship with people rather than a purely wild existence.

Cufant Size Comparison: BETA
Cufant is listed at 3' 11" (1.2 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
