Using Groudon in a Playthrough
Groudon is a pure Ground super-ancient legendary with base 150 Attack, 140 Defense, 100 HP, and Drought, which automatically summons harsh sunlight. Earthquake gives it exceptionally powerful physical STAB from the moment it is obtained, while Swords Dance, Rock coverage, Fire moves strengthened by sun, Thunder Wave, and other utility allow it to function as either a wallbreaker or team-support weather setter. Drought also weakens incoming Water attacks and powers solar strategies for teammates, though ordinary Groudon remains weak to Water, Grass, and Ice and its base 90 Special Defense is much less imposing than the physical side. Primal Groudon becomes Ground/Fire and reaches base 180 Attack, 160 Defense, and 150 Special Attack while gaining Desolate Land, which creates extreme sunlight that completely nullifies Water-type attacks rather than merely weakening them. That ability effectively protects Primal Groudon from what would otherwise be a quadruple Water weakness while its weather remains active, making Ground coverage and other non-Water super-effective attacks much more important against it.
Groudon in Competitive Pokémon
Groudon was a defining ADV Uber from its debut, bringing permanent sun through Drought, base 150 Attack, enormous physical bulk, and one of the strongest Earthquakes in the format. Swords Dance, Choice Band, Thunder Wave, Rock coverage, and weather support let it function as a sweeper, wallbreaker, tank, or enabler for sun teams, while its presence directly contested Kyogre's rain whenever the two weather legends entered the field. Groudon remained a foundational Ubers Pokemon through subsequent generations, but Primal Groudon elevated it even further by becoming Ground/Fire with Desolate Land and extraordinarily high Attack, Defense, and Special Attack. In ORAS and Sun/Moon Ubers, Primal Groudon was among the most central Pokemon in the entire metagame because it could check or pressure an enormous variety of threats while setting Stealth Rock, sweeping with setup, or using mixed offense. Its main limitations are Ground weakness in the Primal form, vulnerability to certain special attackers and faster threats, and dependence on maintaining Desolate Land to keep Water attacks ineffective.
Groudon in Nuzlockes
Groudon is an extremely safe physical Nuzlocke legendary because 100 HP and base 140 Defense let it survive many neutral physical attacks while base 150 Attack ends favorable matchups quickly. The Electric immunity creates a free switch against known Electric moves, and Drought reduces Water damage while strengthening Fire coverage for Groudon and its teammates. Ordinary Groudon must still respect Water, Grass, and Ice, particularly strong special attacks aimed at its lower Special Defense. Primal Groudon is even safer against Water because Desolate Land nullifies Water moves completely, but Ground becomes a major weakness and the Pokemon is not immune to losing weather control under special opposing weather mechanics. As with Kyogre, availability is usually late, but when legal for the run Groudon can dominate many endgame physical matchups with very little risk.

Groudon Biology and Behavior
Groudon is the ancient counterpart to Kyogre and is credited in Hoenn mythology with expanding continents by evaporating water, creating droughts, and causing magma to rise from deep underground. It was revered as a savior by people whose lands were threatened by floods, even though the same powers can produce catastrophic heat and desiccation when unleashed without restraint. After its primordial struggle with Kyogre was stopped by Rayquaza, Groudon entered a long sleep deep underground, preserving a power associated with the geological formation of the land itself. Primal Groudon represents its original fully powered state: primordial energy pours from its body as magma and the heat is so extreme that the air around it visibly shimmers. Desolate Land can completely nullify Water attacks, and accounts of the Primal form describe it creating new land with every step while possessing enough power, at its most extreme, to threaten life on a planetary scale.

Groudon Size Comparison: BETA
Groudon is listed at 11' 6" (3.5 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Groudon currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
