Registeel Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Registeel in a Playthrough
Registeel is the most evenly defensive of the original three legendary giants, combining base 150 Defense and 150 Special Defense with pure Steel typing and base 80 HP. Its offenses are only base 75 on both sides and Speed is just 50, so its main value comes from surviving attacks, spreading status, setting Stealth Rock in later generations, and using fixed-damage or utility moves rather than attempting to sweep. Clear Body prevents opposing stat reductions and preserves its defensive consistency, while the later Hidden Ability Light Metal halves its weight but is generally much less impactful in ordinary story play. Before Generation VI, Steel's resistance to Dark and Ghost made Registeel's defensive profile even more extreme; modern Steel remains excellent but leaves Fire, Fighting, and Ground as dangerous weaknesses while Dark and Ghost are now neutral. Registeel works best as a mixed wall that repeatedly pivots into resisted attacks and supports the rest of the team, though lack of reliable instant recovery can make long routes and repeated boss battles wear it down.
Registeel in Competitive Pokémon
Registeel debuted in ADV UUBL but possessed a genuine OU niche as a mixed wall, using pure Steel typing and 150 defenses on both sides to pivot into a huge range of attacks. Thunder Wave, Toxic, Seismic Toss, Counter, Curse, and Explosion gave it ways to create progress even though its direct offensive stats were modest, while immunity to sandstorm and Clear Body made it difficult to wear down through several common ADV mechanics. Later generations strengthened the support identity through Stealth Rock, allowing Registeel to compress hazard setting, status, and mixed walling into one slot and become a recurring staple of several lower-tier metagames. Its main flaws are passivity, low Speed, common Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-type weaknesses, and the lack of reliable instant recovery, which means repeated chip eventually defeats it even when individual attacks do not. Unlike Regirock and Regice, Registeel's defining strength is not one extreme defensive stat but the ability to remain very difficult to break from either attacking side.
Registeel in Nuzlockes
Registeel is one of the safest late-game defensive Pokemon a Nuzlocke can offer because 150 in both defenses and pure Steel typing create a huge number of predictable resistances. Clear Body prevents random stat drops from eroding those defenses, and status support can make dangerous opponents easier for the entire team to manage. The biggest threats are Fire, Fighting, and Ground moves, which are common enough that Registeel should never be treated as invulnerable simply because the health bar falls slowly against neutral attacks. Its low Speed means it usually absorbs damage before acting, and without dependable instant recovery every hit matters across a long sequence of battles. When used as a planned resistance-based pivot rather than a universal wall, Registeel offers an unusually high margin for error.

Registeel Biology and Behavior
Registeel's body is completely hollow yet made from a mysterious metallic substance harder than any known conventional metal, while somehow remaining flexible enough to stretch and shrink. The material is said to have been tempered by immense underground pressure for tens of thousands of years until the surface became effectively impossible to scratch. Some traditions claim Registeel formed deep inside the planet's mantle and emerged onto the surface about 10,000 years ago, while the legendary-giant myth instead says Regigigas created it from magma. No one knows what Registeel eats—or whether a hollow being made from unknown metal needs food in any recognizable biological sense. Ancient people once worshipped the Pokemon before fearing its power and sealing it away, leaving modern researchers with a living metallic object whose origin, nutrition, and internal functioning remain largely unexplained.

Registeel Size Comparison: BETA
Registeel is listed at 6' 3" (1.9 m) and shown in an in-chart visual comparison.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
