Regigigas Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage

Using Regigigas in a Playthrough

Regigigas has one of the most deceptive stat spreads in the series: 110 HP, 160 Attack, 110 Defense, 110 Special Defense, and 100 Speed would normally describe an elite physical Legendary, but Slow Start halves its Attack and Speed for the first five turns after it enters battle. Switching Regigigas out does not solve the problem because Slow Start begins again when it returns, so using the Pokemon effectively requires surviving long enough for its full strength to activate or relying on utility that does not care about the reduced Attack. Return or Body Slam, Earthquake, Knock Off, elemental punches, Drain Punch, Thunder Wave, Substitute in applicable games, and its signature Crush Grip give it respectable coverage and support once obtained. In Diamond and Pearl, Regigigas is encountered at level 70 in Snowpoint Temple, while Platinum famously places it at level 1, and in either case Regirock, Regice, and Registeel must be present in the party to awaken it. Adamant can maximize the extraordinary Attack once Slow Start ends, while Impish or Careful can emphasize the huge bulk needed to survive those opening turns, but the ability remains such a severe drawback that Regigigas often performs worse than much weaker-looking Pokemon.

Regigigas in Competitive Pokémon

Regigigas is one of competitive Pokemon's most famous examples of a disastrous ability overwhelming exceptional base statistics. DPP Smogon placed it around PU-level viability despite a 670 base stat total because Slow Start halves both Attack and Speed for five turns every time Regigigas enters, allowing opponents to set up, inflict status, phaze it just before the countdown ends, or simply attack while its offensive pressure is crippled. Defensive sets exploited 110/110/110 bulk with Thunder Wave, Toxic, Knock Off, and strong neutral coverage, while more aggressive variants attempted to stall through Slow Start using Substitute, Confuse Ray, paralysis, and Leftovers before finally unleashing base 160 Attack. Later generations gave Regigigas additional tools, but the fundamental mechanic remained and modern SV Smogon still lists it in ZU despite the enormous raw stat line. Formats that can suppress or replace Slow Start reveal just how threatening the underlying Pokemon actually is, but under ordinary standard rules Regigigas has never established a sustained high-tier singles role. Its competitive history is therefore unusually instructive: one ability can matter more than hundreds of base-stat points when it removes both immediate damage and Speed for several critical turns.

Regigigas in Nuzlockes

Regigigas's enormous defenses can make it surprisingly difficult to kill in a Nuzlocke, but Slow Start creates a dangerous mismatch between how powerful it looks and what it can actually do for the first five turns. Because Attack and Speed are both halved and the counter restarts whenever Regigigas switches out, simply pivoting away from danger never allows the ability to expire; the Pokemon must remain active through several opposing turns before reaching full strength. Its 110/110/110 bulk can support that plan against weak neutral enemies, and Thunder Wave, status, or other utility can contribute without depending heavily on Attack, but critical hits, Fighting moves, setup sweepers, and phazing can turn the waiting period into a major liability. Once Slow Start expires, base 160 Attack and 100 Speed make Regigigas devastating, so reliable attacks and Drain Punch can convert that late payoff into safer wins. Under permadeath rules it should be introduced only against opponents that cannot exploit the five-turn window, and many Nuzlocke rulesets will exclude it anyway because it is a Legendary.

According to legend, Regigigas pulled landmasses together and bound them with rope to create the continent of Hisui. Though I have my doubts, the story could well contain a shred of truth.

Regigigas Biology and Behavior

Regigigas is an ancient colossal craftsman credited with creating five Legendary giants in its own image and somehow bringing them to life from radically different materials: rock for Regirock, ice for Regice, magma or metal for Registeel, concentrated electrical energy for Regieleki, and crystallized dragon energy for Regidrago. The feat implies extraordinary resistance to extreme environments, including both molten material and temperatures around minus 328 degrees Fahrenheit. Sinnoh legend goes even further, claiming that Regigigas used ropes to tow and bind enormous landmasses together into the regions of the Pokemon world before entering a deep sleep inside Snowpoint Temple. When forcibly awakened it can rampage and fire tremendous energy beams, but accounts also describe a calmer and gentler temperament once it has been befriended. The seven dark 'eyes' on its face glow red when it is angered, and vegetation grows directly across parts of its ancient body, reinforcing the impression of a creature that can remain dormant for immense spans of time.

How is visual size determined?

Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.

For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.

The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
