Using Shaymin Land in a Playthrough
Shaymin has two dramatically different battle forms despite sharing one National Dex number. Land Forme is pure Grass with base 100 in every stat and Natural Cure, making it a balanced attacker and bulky pivot that can remove status simply by switching out; Seed Flare supplies 120-power Grass STAB with a 40 percent chance to lower the target's Special Defense by two stages, while Earth Power, Psychic, Dazzling Gleam in later games, Leech Seed, and recovery provide additional options. Using a Gracidea under the appropriate conditions transforms Shaymin into Sky Forme, changing it to Grass/Flying with 120 Special Attack and exceptional base 127 Speed at the cost of reducing both defenses to 75. Sky Forme also gains Serene Grace, doubling Seed Flare's Special Defense-drop chance from 40 to 80 percent and Air Slash's flinch chance from 30 to 60 percent, but it becomes quadruple weak to Ice and also weak to Rock, Fire, Flying, and Poison. Timid is especially valuable for Sky Forme while Land Forme can use Timid, Modest, or more defensive natures effectively, and players should remember that Sky Forme can revert to Land Forme under conditions such as nighttime or being frozen depending on the game.
Shaymin Land in Competitive Pokémon
Land Forme Shaymin was a legitimate DPP OU Pokemon rather than merely a novelty Mythical, using the combination of balanced base-100 stats, Natural Cure, reliable recovery, and Seed Flare to pressure bulky Water- and Ground-types while repeatedly switching through status. It competed heavily with Celebi, which offered a broader support movepool and Fighting resistance, but Shaymin's pure Grass typing, Seed Flare, Earth Power, and offensive sets gave it a distinct niche; modern SV power creep has pushed Land Shaymin much lower, with Smogon currently listing it in PU. Sky Forme had a completely different trajectory and was placed in Ubers from DPP onward: base 127 Speed, 120 Special Attack, Serene Grace, Seed Flare, and Air Slash create an infamous combination in which Seed Flare has an 80 percent chance to cut Special Defense by two stages and Air Slash has a 60 percent chance to flinch. Those probabilities allow Sky Shaymin to break or bypass checks through secondary effects even when raw damage is insufficient, while Earth Power, Healing Wish, and Choice items provide additional utility. Sky Forme remains Uber in modern SV, although its 75/75 defenses, Stealth Rock weakness, quadruple Ice weakness, and dependence on secondary-effect luck keep it far less reliable defensively than its speed and offensive pressure suggest.
Shaymin Land in Nuzlockes
Land Forme Shaymin is the safer of the two forms for Nuzlockes because 100 in every defensive stat, Natural Cure, recovery, and resistances to Water, Ground, Grass, and Electric give it a substantial margin in favorable matchups. Sky Forme trades that safety for offensive tempo: base 127 Speed prevents many opponents from attacking at all, but 75 Defense and Special Defense plus a quadruple Ice weakness mean a single unexpected Ice move can be catastrophic. Seed Flare is extremely powerful but only 85 percent accurate, so a more reliable Grass attack may be preferable when the extra damage or Special Defense drop is unnecessary; Air Slash also should not be treated as guaranteed protection despite its Serene Grace-boosted 60 percent flinch chance. Healing Wish is excellent competitively but deliberately causes Shaymin to faint and should normally be excluded from permadeath play. If Mythical Pokemon are allowed, Land Forme is usually the better default for safety while Sky Forme is best reserved for battles where its enormous Speed advantage and specific resistances produce a clearly controlled matchup.

Shaymin Land Biology and Behavior
Land Forme Shaymin lives in flower fields and can curl its small body tightly enough to resemble an ordinary flowering plant, allowing it to escape notice. It can absorb toxins and other pollutants from the air, purify them inside its body, and release the cleaned material in a burst that rapidly transforms damaged land into fields of flowers. Shaymin can sense gratitude, and flowers bloom across its body when it receives affection or detects strong feelings of thankfulness. Groups migrate seasonally in a behavior called Flower Carrying, leaving new flowers growing in the places where they land.

Shaymin Land Size Comparison: BETA
Shaymin Land is listed at 0' 8" (0.2 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale because leaves or foliage can extend beyond the substantial body.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Shaymin Land is currently tagged for leaves/foliage.
