Bruxish Playthrough, Competitive, and Nuzlocke Usage
Using Bruxish in a Playthrough
Bruxish is a single-stage Water/Psychic physical attacker with base 105 Attack and 92 Speed, making it immediately functional once caught without requiring an evolution investment. In Alola it is obtained by fishing on the western side of Ula'ula Island and surrounding waters, while Scarlet and Violet make it more directly available in the East and West Paldean Seas, so its usefulness depends substantially on when the player chooses to explore aquatic areas. Strong Jaw is usually the most straightforward offensive Ability because it boosts biting moves by 50%, turning STAB Psychic Fangs into an unusually strong physical Psychic attack and also strengthening coverage such as Crunch and Ice Fang. Dazzling trades that raw damage for protection from opposing priority moves, which can be valuable for preserving Bruxish against revenge kills, while Wonder Skin is a more situational Hidden Ability that reduces the reliability of many status moves used against it. Water STAB such as Liquidation provides reliable damage, and later games add options such as Wave Crash and Flip Turn, although Wave Crash's recoil is often unnecessary during a long story route when Liquidation already secures the knockout. Its 68/70/70 bulk is mediocre and Water/Psychic leaves weaknesses to Bug, Dark, Electric, Ghost, and Grass, so Jolly is useful for maximizing its decent Speed while Adamant is a legitimate alternative for stronger Strong Jaw attacks.
Bruxish in Competitive Pokémon
Bruxish entered competitive play with a surprisingly dangerous offensive niche built around Strong Jaw-boosted Psychic Fangs, Swords Dance, and enough Speed to threaten slower balance teams. In Generation VII it was classified NUBL while receiving RU analysis, where boosted Psychic Fangs could overwhelm many neutral targets and Aqua Jet let it finish faster weakened opponents; Crunch or Liquidation handled different defensive answers. Dazzling provided an alternate niche by shutting off opposing priority, but Strong Jaw was generally more important to dedicated wallbreaking because Bruxish's average bulk made immediate damage essential. Bruxish was unavailable in Sword and Shield, interrupting its singles history for a generation. It returned in Scarlet and Violet and is currently placed in PU, where stronger Water tools such as Wave Crash and pivoting through Flip Turn let it function as a wallbreaker, Choice user, or offensive pivot even though the overall power level around it has increased. Its recurring shortcomings are limited defensive utility, middling bulk, and a Speed tier that is good but not exceptional, so it has remained a threatening specialized attacker rather than a consistent high-tier staple.
Bruxish in Nuzlockes
Bruxish can be effective in a Nuzlocke because it combines respectable Speed with strong physical Water and Psychic attacks, allowing it to end favorable matchups before its mediocre bulk becomes relevant. Dazzling is particularly attractive for survival-focused runs because opposing priority moves cannot unexpectedly finish Bruxish or its allies, removing a common way that a weakened fast Pokémon dies despite appearing to have the Speed advantage. Strong Jaw is usually better when the safest plan is simply to secure a knockout with Psychic Fangs or another biting move, and Psychic Fangs itself is accurate while also removing Reflect, Light Screen, and Aurora Veil when those effects matter. Bruxish should not be switched blindly into neutral attacks because base 68 HP and 70 defenses leave relatively little margin for an unexpected critical hit or coverage move. Wave Crash is powerful in later games but its recoil creates avoidable permadeath risk, so Liquidation is generally preferable when the extra power is unnecessary. Wonder Skin can reduce the chance of certain status moves connecting, but because it introduces probability rather than certainty, it is less dependable as a Nuzlocke safety plan than Dazzling's guaranteed priority protection.

Bruxish Biology and Behavior
Bruxish buries most of its body in the seafloor and leaves the colorful growth on its head exposed, using low-level psychic emissions from that organ like radar to detect nearby prey. When it attacks, grinding its teeth stimulates its brain and produces much stronger psychic energy; the sound is unpleasant enough that nearby Pokémon flee, while direct exposure to the psychic power can cause severe headaches and unconsciousness. Its prey includes Shellder and Mareanie, which Bruxish crushes into mush with its powerful teeth before eating. It competes with Toxapex in warm ocean currents, creating a direct ecological rivalry between two Alolan reef predators. Alolan lifeguards deliberately tolerate Bruxish near swimming areas because the noise and psychic activity drive away other dangerous Water-type Pokémon, giving the species an unusual protective role around humans. Sunlight reflecting through the ripples created by its psychic organ can also make the surrounding water glitter brightly.

Bruxish Size Comparison: BETA
Bruxish is listed at 2' 11" (0.9 m); this chart uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.

How is visual size determined?
Pokédex height is treated as the official listed measurement, but the chart uses pose-aware visual scaling so each sprite looks reasonable in a direct comparison.
For long or coiled Pokémon, the listed height may represent total body length rather than upright height. For Pokémon with floppy ears, leaves, feathers, antennae, wings, or other flexible features, the chart usually measures to the top of the solid, substantial part of the head or body instead of the tallest decorative feature.
The goal is not to replace the official height, but to make the artwork compare naturally at the size it appears to occupy.
Bruxish currently uses a pose-adjusted visual scale.
